One of the plays being developed
this season in Blyth is not going to
appear on the stage of Memorial
Hall.
Two Wo rids-A Journey Through
Listowel written by former Listow
el native Paul Thompson will be
part of the Listowel Homecoming
celebrations this weekend. Mr.
Thompson, of Theatre Passe
Muraille fame, has brought to
rural audiences such celebrated
works as The Farm Show and The
Donnellys, was approached by the
Tomcoming Committee with the
idea of doing the play. "They want
ed something special for the Home-
coming. So they leapt into this
turning themselves into angels," he
said, explaining that the committee
came up with $8,000 in funding for
the play's development, which will
never be recouped due to the limit
ed number of performances.
Mr. Thompson, his wife, actress
Anne Anglin and actor/director
Greg Spottiswood, conceived the
idea, then developed the play with
the technique to allow for the
actors' input on stage. The frame of
the show was worked on at the Lis
towel Agricultural Hall for two
weeks in May, then the troupe
moved to Blyth where three weeks
of workshopping took place. Thir
teen actors appear in the show,
including 10 from the Blyth Festi
val company and Listowel District
Secondary School drama teacher
Carol Oriold.
The focus of the play is the peri
od of the mid to late 50's, Mr.
Thompson's last three years at Lis
towel high school. It is, he said,
"kind of a sequel" to another piece
that he, Ms Anglin and actor John
Jarvis did with the Listowel District
