Exel leads Christian Reformed worship Greeting worshippers at the July 19 morning service, at Blyth Christian Reformed Church were Margaret and Ralph Buffinga. The opening hymn, “The Tender Love A Father Has”, with Hinke Bakelaar serving as organist. Mr. Henry Exel an elder and member led the morning service. He opened with reading the Law from Exodus 20 and then the summary of the Law from Matthew 22, the great and first Commandment. The sermon entitled “Peter In Trouble”, was prepared and written by Rev. Jack Quartel, who was recently installed as pastor of Goderich Christian Reformed Church. Two questions were raised in the sermon. How do you get in trouble? Then how do you get out? When Jesus invited Peter to walk with him on the water, Peter impulsively did so, then he lost faith and was sinking, almost drowning. Peter was in trouble because of fear, lack of trust, and doubting. Christians reach mountaintops by first journeying through valleys. Often the most growth is gained through the valleys. Life with Jesus is not all rosy; it includes trials and suffering. How then do we get out of trouble? We focus our minds on Jesus and believe. This results in a destiny of courage and solutions. Mr. Exel ended with the statement that “Peter had taken his eye off Jesus.” He challenged us to look away from our own problems and focus on Jesus. This past week seven women from the congregation attended the “Coffee Break Convention” at McMaster University in Hamilton, with 1500 other women. The Conference Theme was “His Life, Our Fragrance” II Cor. 2: 14-17. The ladies reported an enriching three days of praise, worship, study, and sharing with other Christians from all over North America. DEAN F. DAVISON Dean F.
