B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Van Camps hold picnic The annual Van Camp picnic was held at the Kinsmen Community Park in Belgrave Sunday, July 19. Children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the late William and Hazel Van Camp enjoyed a fun-filled afternoon of games, sunshine weather and delicious pot luck supper. A gift for the oldest was given to Miss Lilia Jean Taylor of Braemore Lodge, Wingham and to the youngest, Jacob Schurter, infant son bom July 7, 1992, of Robert and Johanna Schurter of Walkerton; candies in a jar was won by Mrs. Joyce Van Camp; balloon blowing contest by Harold Jardin. A candy and peanut toss was enjoyed by the younger children and the water balloon toss was a great hit with Len Zevenberger and Kay Harris, first and Marilyn Swartz and son Todd in second place. The person who travelled the farthest coming to the picnic was Norma Davidson and closest birthday went to Colleen Van Camp who was 10 years old July 19. The picnic was enjoyed by 46 family members. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lamont attended a surprise birthday party for Mrs. Colleen Lamont at the home of her sister and brother-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Brian Jones of London on Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vincent, Patrick Angela and Aaron of New Brunswick visited with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harold Vincent and other relatives. They attended the 125th East Wawanosh celebrations. Mrs. Angela Wade of Wales is visiting with her uncle and aunt Rev. and Mrs. John G. Roberts. Mrs. Ruth Coyne and her daughter Mrs. Bonnie Dunlop of Windsor visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Taylor. Mrs. Pat Huck and sons John and Ted from Edmonton, Alberta spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Campbell and boys last week. They also visited other Scott relatives in the area. Mr. and Mrs. Melville Mathers of RR 4, Wingham accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Mathers of Exeter on a plane trip to England and Scotland. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Stonehouse attended the 90th birthday party of his sister Mrs. Agnes Walker on Sunday, July 19 at the Maple Grove Lodge, Goderich. Other relatives who attended the birthday of their aunt Mrs. Walker were Mrs. Lois Hill of Toronto and from this area Mrs. Audrey MacKay, Wingham; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Coultes and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Coultes, RR 5, Brussels and Mrs. Thelma Pletch, Belgrave, along with other relatives and neighbours from the Goderich, Wingham and Belgrave areas. Glenn Montgomery, owner of Lot 1, Cone. 6, expressed concern that the catchbasin that was removed during the Hwy 4 recon­ struction should have been left in place. The council has inspected the site and it recommended to Mr. Montgomery that he petition for a new municipal drain to outlet the water from East Wawanosh town­ ship, that ponds on the Morris side of the highway. It was decided that drainage superintendent Gary Nicholson would deliver a letter to Bob Young of the MTO that requested the installation of a catchbasin. Jack Fischer, the caretaker of the Bluevale Cemetery, was present at the meeting and requested a grant from the council to complete the renovation of the cemetery stones at the Bluevale Cemetery.
