McKillop endorses resolution McKillop Township council, dur­ ing their July 7 meeting, agreed to support Huron County's submission for the new medium security peni­ tentiary to be located within the county. A resolution from the Ontario Association of Road Superinten­ dents demanding consultation with municipal councils in regards to disentanglement was supported. Council agreed that Ontario should not take any action, nor should any local MPP vote on any legislation, until both the province and local MPP's have consulted directly with all municipal councils. Council also endorsed Hullett Twp's resolution concerning the restructuring of CKNX Broadcast­ ing Ltd.'s television station in Wingham. It is felt that the impor­ tance of the locally-established media must be recognized, and serious consideration be given to the unavoidable reduction of local coverage. Accounts in the amount of $309,499.16 were approved for payment. The Belgrave Squirt Boys trav­ elled to Gowanstown on July 13 only to be trounced by the home team 16-6. The visitors were shut out in the first two innings while Gowanstown made their mark early 20 teams participate in tournee A ‘Mixed Trebles’ lawn bowling tournament was held in Brussels Saturday, July 18 with 20 teams participating. Each team was made up of either two men and one woman or two women and one man. Rain threatened most of the afternoon but the tournament was completed on schedule. A salad supper was served by the ladies of the Brussels club between the second and third games. Winners were: first, Joe White, Palmerston (Atwood Club), 3 wins 49 plus 4; second, Jack McDonald, Lucknow, 3 wins, 38; third, Doug Kidd, Atwood, 3 wins 37; fourth, Phil Leahy, Elmira, 2 wins 45 plus 2; Len Brubacher, Elmira, 2 wins 41 plus 1; Sandy Pepper, Seaforth, 2 wins 40 plus 4; Ray Buchanan, Atwood, 2 wins 38; Bill Ducklow, Mitchell, 2 wins 36 plus 1; Ed Eickmeyer, Mitchell, 2 wins 36; Gordon Bosman, Brussels, 2 wins 28; consolation, Gordon Rogers. The next tournament to be held in Brussels will be Ladies Pairs Thursday, July 30, 10:30 a.m. game Doug Conley went the distance striking out 10. Sunday night the Tigers defeated the Zurich Rangers 12-7. Murray Pipe and Todd Uhrig each hit four for four while Ken Higgins went three for four. Dave Smith pitched the win with Mike Watson throwing four innings of relief. Wednesday night the Tigers travel to Brodhagen for an 8:30 start against the Walton Brewers. Sunday night the Exeter Sooners are in town for a 7:30 contest. Sunday afternoon the Tigers hosted the annual Huron County All-Star game which the north eventually won 13-12 with the help of two grand slams. Murray Pipe spent the game behind the plate while Todd Wheeler made a pinch hit appearance. Also representing the north were Mike Bromley and Jason Balser of Blyth Decor, Mike Kerr and Brent Scrimgeour of Blyth Soundproof, Tony Greidanus and Darren Akey of the C4th Bears and Jerry Wright and Rich Bowman of Coop's Sports of Seaforth.
