PAGE 1 Directors save Blyth summer recreation program In comparison to previous years, registration for the Blyth Summer Recreation Program was unexpectedly low and meant a last minute scramble for organizers. As of Friday, only eight children were planning to attend the program versus 70 in 1991 and 61 in 1990. Sandra Howson and Kerrie McClinchey, summer recreation directors, felt strongly that in spite of the low registration, a program should continue. Hearing their concerns and recognizing that if the program is discontinued it may be difficult to restart, Councillors Robbie Lawrie and Steven Sparling accepted a proposal from the two directors. A much shorter program will run from July 6 through July 17 inclusive, at no cost to village ratepayers. Under the directors' proposal, funding would come from registration fees, a donation from the Blyth Lions Club and a Federal S.E.E.D. Grant through Employment and Immigration Canada. As well, registration fees have been pro-rated and parents Robert Datema guest speaker at church Greeters for the July 12 services at Blyth Christian Reformed Church were Bert and Susan Buffinga. Leading the services for will be credited for half of the amount paid. Finally, the two directors and three assistants will arrange a work sharing schedule to ensure time is fairly divided. the day was guest speaker Mr. Robert Datema. In charge of three- year-old Sunday School was Trudy Passchier and Liz Burgsma. Councillors Lawrie and Sparling expressed appreciation to Sandra and Kerrie for their mature judgement in pursuit of an effective compromise to the situation. The collection this Sunday was for the Church and Homestead Group Home in Hamilton. TOMORROW! 12 till 12- ’ Thursday, July 16,1992___" » ZlLLIAX IWilM. ■I A TOTAL STOREWIDE EVENT! 12 HOURS ONL Y!
