LondesboroThe news from [Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Shobbrook family holds 57th reunion Fifty members of the Shobbrook family attended the 57th Shobbrook Reunion held at the Londesboro Community hall on Sunday, July 5. President Art Knight welcomed everyone. A minute’s silence was held in memory of departed family members. Grace was sung and a delicious smorgasbord lunch was enjoyed by all. ' Cindy Knight conducted the business part of the reunion. It was moved that the reunion held on July 4, 1993 at the same place. A motion was made to have the family tree book brought up to date. The oldest person present was Mamie Crawford, the youngest was Mark Thomas, seven. The family travelling the farthest distance was Charlie and Wendy Crawford and family from Kelowna, B.C. Janice Andrews conducted the sports. The winners were: boys, 5 and under, Thomas Hemingway; girls, 5 and under, Katie Hemingway, Laura Jackson; boys 6-8, Cameron Crawford, Shayne Andrews; girls 9 to 12, Leanne Crawford, Lyndsay Andrews; kick the slipper, boys up to 10, Shayne Andrews; girls up to 10, Leanne Crawford, Lyndsay Andrews and Katie Hemingway; men 11 and up, Jim Crawford, Chris Knox; ladies 11 and up, Shirley Shobbrook. Family members were present from Kelowna, B.C.; Breton, Alberta; Port Colbome, Cambridge, London and local areas. W.I. has picnic For the July W.I. meeting on Wednesday, July 8, 18 members and five visitors went by car to Stratford. They enjoyed an hour tour on the double decker bus and after this enjoyed a lovely picnic lunch provided by Lois Elliott and Marjorie Anderson. Taxman sermon topic Greeters al Londesboro United Church on Sunday, July 12 were Jack and Helen Lee. Ushers were Tracy Radford, Cheryl and Doug Trewartha. The sermon topic was “Preaching on The Parables No. 2 - The Pharisee and the Tax Man.” Youths plan trip Old Time Seniors Dance will be held Wednesday, July 15 at Londesboro Hall. Ladies please bring lunch. Junior Youth Group will meet on Thursday evening, July 16 at the home of Florence Cartwright to make final plans for the camping trip. Reunions abound in Belgrave Mr. and Mrs. Grant Trigger of Carsonville, Michigan visited with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler on the holiday weekend. Mrs. Doris Scott and her granddaughter, Cory Scott of Midland spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Lome Campbell. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Nicholson and Sherrie of Barrie and Dr. Ray and Mrs. Nicholson of Victoria visited on the weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Gamer Nicholson. Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas and daughter Alicia of London visited with Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. All attended the 125th homecoming and birthday of East Wawanosh Township. Amber and Trevor Koehler spent a week's holidays with their aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Priddle and boys of Badjeros. Kinsmen hold calendar draw The winners of last week's Kinsmen Calendar Draw were: Saturday, July 4, Riva McLean, Wingham, $50; Sunday, July 5, Ross Pickard, Lucknow, $50; Monday, July 6, John and Sheila Nixon, Belgrave, $50; Tuesday, July 7, Len King, Listowel, $50; Wednesday, July 8, Rick VantFoort, London, $50; Thursday, July 9, George Dieroff, Lucknow, $50; and Friday, July 10, Ross and daughter Muriel Taylor, Belgrave, $100. Program encourages children to read Centralia College is running a Read Canada Program in Huron, Perth and northern Middlesex counties again this summer, with Karen Houston as the storyteller. This program promotes reading to and with children. Karen will be travelling to swimming pools, day camps, libraries, day care centres and campgrounds throughout the summer to conduct story hours for young children ages 4-8. Some of the locations where Karen will be reading this summer include: the Exeter pool every Monday during July and August at 11:00 a.m.; the Exeter Library, July 2, 9, 23, and 30 at 2:00 p.m.; the Kirkton Library July 7, 21 & 28 at 1:30 p.m.; and the Hensail playground August 4 and 6 at 1:00 p.m. Karen can be found at these locations sitting on a lime green blanket and children are encouraged to join in on the fun. Approximately 110 people attended the Procter reunion which was held on Sunday, July 12 in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave. President Ken Alton had charge of the reunion. The executive was: Vice President, Mrs. Joyce Hill; Secretary, Doug Procter; Sports, Cameron and Laurie Procter; Lunch committee, Sandra Mayberry. The oldest person present was Mrs. Alice Procter and the youngest was Matthew Nivins. Officers for 1993 are: President, Mrs. Joyce Hills; Vice-President, George Procter; Secretary, Mrs. Marlene Procter; Sports, Paul and Linda Smits and Jim and Sharon Nivins and lunch, Mrs. Bernice Higgins. Those present were from: England, California, London, Edmonton, Markham, Ingersoll, Brampton, Walkerton, Tavistock, Lucknow and Goderich. 1993 reunion will be the second Sunday in July in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave. The 42th annual reunion of the Edgar clan was held at the Belmore complex on Sunday afternoon July 12 with 26 relatives present. Officers in charge for 1992 were: President, Dayid Ireland; Secretary- Treasurer, Irlma Edgar and Sports, Harvey and Audrey Edgar. The 1993 reunion will be held at the same place the second Sunday in July wilh the following list of officers: President, David Ireland; Secretary-Treasurer, Irlma Edgar and Sports, Nancy Taylor. Those present were from: Katrina, Tceswatcr, Wroxeter, Gorrie, Lucknow, Wingham and Belgrave.
