Bridge replacement
The Huron County Highway's bridge crew has begun digging holes for the east pier
foundation of the new bridge on County Road 10 of Grey Township. The river had to be first
blocked off by a coffer dam and redirected along the west bank. Abutments and wing walls on
both the east and west banks have already been completed. The project, which began at the
end of April, is expected to carry through to the end of October or mid-November.

Permission was given for a Grey
township resident on the edge of
the village to hook into the Brus
sels sewer system. The costs are to
be paid by him, the road superin
tendent will be on-site at the time
of the work, it passes inspection by
the health unit and the road restora
tion work is completed. The sewer
charge will be one-and-a-half times
the regular rate.**♦
Water and sewer will be extend
ed to a lot on Elm St. provided the
owner meets specific conditions set
by council. The owner must pay
any costs involved in the project,
pending PUC approval for water
main, road restoration work is to be
done and the road superintendent
will be present to provide supervi
sion.

The tender of Lavis Construction
was accepted for the paving of
Albert St., from Queen St. to
William St. at a cost $9,977.75 for
the first block on John St. at a cost
of $9,517.65, the second block at a
cost of $10,480.65 and for the ten
nis courts at $5,833.50. Total cost
is $35,807.55 including GST.
A total of $37,000 was budgetted
for the project. The tennis court
was not included in the budget
amount as that money has been set
aside.
The overbudgetted amount will,
however, take care of overspending
for snowplowing this past winter
said Mrs. White.♦**
With a great deal of reluctance
on the part of some councillors a
motion passed to purchase an ad ir
the amount of $133 for the Bulls
10th anniversary program.

tioned why they should spend the
taxpayers' money on the Bulls, to
which Deputy-clerk Lori Pipe
responded by saying that the Bulls
bring a lot of money into town.
Councillor Hahn asked what
about all the other clubs in town.
"What do we do when they come in
and ask for $133?"
Councillor Greg Wilson said, "I
guess I could justify this by think
ing of the $3,000 a year they pay
for ice rental."
Councillor Hahn said., "It's the
same story. If I want to make a
donation I will, but I don't want to
make it on my taxes."
Councillor voted in favour of the
request, however, Councillor Wil
son stated that he signed the
motion, "reluctantly".
Dead trees at King and John
Streets and on the boulevard in sev

Councillor Dave Hastings
said,"We have spent our wad, so
we’ll wait. I'm not a tree surgeon,
but I don't think they're going to
fall down and we're not going over
budget."

Council agreed to try leaf collec
tion this fall, but would not commit
to a three-year agreement.
"Let's see how it goes, first," said
Councillor Wilson.
The pick-up would be set for spe
cific days, likely two, and would
cost the village $50 per hour.
Reeve Workman said he didn't
understand why it was such a prob
lem. "God put them there, let God
take them away. I just chop my
with a lawn mower. They don't kill
the lawn or hurt anybody."♦♦♦
Council supported a resolution
from Hullett township which states
that CKNX should not become a
relay station fro CFPL-TV, but
retain its identity as the voice of
Midwestern Ontario.♦♦♦
A total of eight building permits
were approved.
Mrs. White read a letter from
Councillor Mary Stretton regarding
the recreation committee report.
Councillor Stretton informed
