Elizabeth St. gets stop signs Be careful what you ask for you just might get it. That's what happened at Brussels council on Monday night following complaints from three Frederick St. residents about trucks not stopping at the Elizabeth St. intersection of Huronlea. Clerk Donna White told councillors that the complaints had come from people after they had nearly been hit by vehicles coming from the construction zone. Councillors were at first divided on where they felt the signs should go. In the beginning Councillor Dave Hastings and Councillor Greg Wilson said it would be most appropriate to have the sign placed coming from the construction site onto Elizabeth St. Councillor Bruce Hahn, however, said that legally the person coming to a T-intersection should be the one to yield to traffic so the sign should be on Frederick St. Reeve Gord Workman said if that was the case then there should be a sign at Smith's Lane, which comes from the east onto Elizabeth St. Councillors decided that if the signs are to be placed the only way is the legal way. Mrs. White was given authorization to order two stop signs, one going east from Frederick St. and one going west THE BRUSSELS CRUSADERS would like to thank everyone who took part in Bessie Bingo. She said she'd never worked with a contrac tor who was ahead of schedule before. What's more, County Treasurer Bill Alcock said, the project looks like it will be under budget. So far only $85,390 of the $918,362 con tingency funds has been used, most of that for the costs of an on-site supervisor. In addition, the Min istry of Community and Social Ser vices portion of the costs had arrived earlier than had been pro jected and the cost of interest for the project will therefore be consid erably lower than in the budget. One problem on the horizon is that the county may have to operate part of the old home, even after the move to the new sites, because there are too many residents for the capacity of the new home. The county had imposed a freeze on nftanfcjyou Thanks to all the volunteers who helped to make the annual FunFest a Fun Time for all. It was another success ful year. - Chairman, Doug McArter admissions two years ago in order to bring the Huronview population down to the capacity of the new homes, but there are still 219 resi dents at Huronview. Capacity of the new homes is 180. A move is scheduled for early in 1993. The Transitional Committee wrestled with the problem, looking at four alternatives: keeping the current building and the new Huronlea site, but not opening the new Clinton building until the pop ulation had dropped to the right capacity; not moving into either new building until the numbers were right; using the apartments at the central site for overflow instead of apartment use until the numbers match the capacity; and using the existing Huronview's Park Place wing (built in 1967) for any additional residents to the capacity of the new homes. Council approved the recommendation that Park Place be used to handle the overflow if needed. ‘TfianiCD'ou A hearty thanks to the Brussels FunFest Committee members who organized their various group activi ties. ; A JOB WELL DONE! - Chairman, Doug McArter Brussels People On Sunday July 5 Ralph and Edna Pearson were delightfully surprised by their daughter Joyce and her husband Neil McLean when they hosted a surprise .
