Historic bridge
serves region
for 77 years
The stately wrought iron bridge that
crossed the Maitland River on thelOth
concession of East Wawanosh township was
replaced late in the fall of 1988.
Built in 1911, the bridge served the region
for 77 years. The use of the bridge became
limited as the years went on, however, as
today's larger farm vehicles either surpassed
the weight restrictions or were too wide. So
in 1983, East Wawanosh council started
discussions on the replacement of the bridge.
A pre-design was prepared for the new
Tenth Line bridge in 1985, and in 1986 land
was purchased. The project was tendered to
McLean Taylor Construction Ltd. of St.
Marys at a cost of $1,051,094.50.
The new Tenth Line bridge officially
opened November 28, 1988.
On Sunday, there will be a community
church service at the arena at 11:00 a.m. All
faiths are invited. Special music, and a
special speaker will be provided.
Following the church service is a pot luck
lunch. Please bring sandwiches or cookies.
Hot and cold beverages will be provided.
A two pitch game between two generation
families will be at 2.00 p.m. Registration
should be done by Sat. 4th. Contact Jim
Taylor.
