Verhoog speaks at CRC service Guest pastor for the Sunday June 28 services at Blyth Christian Reformed Church was Rev. John Verhoog from Exeter. Congratulations were extended to the Verburg family with the marriage of Mike to Sarah Lammers. The wedding took place over the weekend in Dutton, Michigan. The sermon focused on scripture taken from I Peter 1:3-16. Through trials all things come together for our good through Jesus Christ. Joni Erikson, a quadriplegic, searched out the positive in a negative situation. Blessings outweigh the difficulties if we remain focused on God. Peter told the Christians undergoing persecution to search for joy and peace and to praise God at the same time. Rev. Verhoog then pointed out "four facts of our salvation" that could be gleaned from the scriptural text. As Christians we can face our lives with an attitude of hope versus despair. We can find peace in the real and living hope in the future. This hope can never be extinguished. We have assurance of God's promises of Eternal Life. Our trials and sufferings profit us. We need not wallow in self- pity or bitterness as this mind set creates a life of mere misery. There is completeness in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ as Calvary and the promise of Jesus' return. Rev. Verhoog completed his address to the congregation saying that Peter provides these facts about our salvation so we will attempt to live our lives for God! The hymn of dedication was "O Praise Ye The Lord".— If you want to breathe airae tomorrow, save the Tropical Rain jfe SToresS today. Hichaal Ulman. Each year Huron United Way plans to recognize an outstanding member of the committee by inviting them to be Honourary Campaign Chairperson. Lloyd Eisler and Isabelle Brasseur, Canadian Figure Skating Champions, were appointed the initial Co-Chairs. They epitomized the innovation, exuberance and energy of Huron United Way's approach to problems in the community. As the chapter enters its first full campaign, it is proud to announce the 1992 Honourary Campaign Chair, Paul Henderson. Paul, raised in Lucknow, was a member of the Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Birmingham Bulls, and a participant in the 1972 Canada Cup. He is best known for the winning goal in the last three games of the 1972 Canada-Russia series. Many can still see the winning goal with 34 seconds remaining in the final game. For the Huron United Way, Paul symbolized what individuals with an outstanding effort and the Duffs hears commitment of a hard working team behind them can achieve. Lately Paul has been one of the moving forces behind the Campus Crusade for Christ, Canada, working out of Mississauga, where he helps men to develop the spiritual side of life. He also sits on the Advisory Board of Muskoka Woods Sports Camp and has been closely associated with Teen Ranch for the past 17 years, presently on the Advisory Council. He is also a spokesperson for Hockey Development in the Esso Penalty Free Sweepstakes. Charity work is one of his priorities. As a motivational speaker he has addressed many companies, including General Motors, Irving Oil, Consumers Gas, and Peoples Jewellers.
