On behalf of the 1991/92 Graduating Class of East Wawanosh Public School I would like to welcome the teachers, parents and other guests here this evening to an event that nine years ago we thought would never happen. Let's stroll through the years together. Kindergarten opened the first chapter of the book. It was September of 1983, our first day of school. Weren't we a scared bunch of brats? Remember the older kids saying “Kindergarten Babies, Wash Your Face In Gravy”. Mrs. Hessels did give us a great start on our way to grade one. Our memories of Mrs. Brydges in grade one, with her beautiful voice. She led us on the learning train of readin’, writin’, and ’rithmetic. By the time we reached grade two, we were just shifting into gear. Episodes of bowling fruit during lunch hour drove Mrs. Bosman to retire at the end of that year. We celebrated her last day with horns, balloons, cake and ice cream - what an event! Grade three proved to be an educational year. This was Mr. Fisher's first year teaching at East Wawanosh. He was the first teacher to have enough nerve to take our class on an overnight excursion. Grade four came along and boy did Mr. Kerr make us hit the books. Math facts, spelling, reading. The girls and boys weren't even allowed to wear hairspray. Can you imagine that! We have many fond memories of our grade five teachers, Madame Turcotte, and Mr. Scott. We travelled to Talisman for our first lesson in downhill skiing, and ventured to Goderich for our first lesson in formal etiquette. We all remember rude to ruthless - don't we. We still know who was rude or ruthless. The dictionary lady - Ms. Thorpe-Hearn - took our class, where she thought we belonged - to the Toronto Zoo. Grade seven and the Homework Club, maybe it wasn't so bad after ■all. The Phantom of the Opera was a dream that become a reality. Can you imagine our class at the theatre. We didn't even know what to wear. The guys wanted to wear jeans and the girls wanted to wear shorts. This was also the year that introduced us to F. E. Madill Secondary School with nails and hammers, and needles and thread. As we were in grade eight, high school became more and me a reality. Our grade eight year has flown by so fast! I think most of the graduates will agree, this has been the most memorable and exciting year at East Wawanosh Public School. Thanks, Mr. Bartlett for being our teacher, friend and our tour guide to Quebec. It was an event we will remember always. Also a special thank you to our French teacher, Madame Rea for making our trip a reality, and putting up with us during class through the year. And to Mr. Scott and Mrs. Robinson thank you and farewell. Finally, to the special people in our lives that have made this night possible. You have given us many hours so that we may have a shoulder to lean on when we needed it. Sharing your knowledge and advice when we asked for it. Taking the extra effort to look over our homework so it would be right for the next day and we can't forget all the notes, permission slips and tests they have had to sign. From the bottom of our hearts we thank you Moms and Dads for all the time and effort you have given up for us. Now as we go off to high school I hope we all remember the good things we had here at East Wawanosh and that we all achieve our goals in life. Now fellow graduates let the All the best to you, Grads!
