BY JOHN ARMSTRONG
Dear parents, guests and fellow
graduates - Tonight marks the end
of a wonderful nine years that we
the graduates and the school staff
have spent together.
For the most of us our public
school years began on a September
morning - nine years ago. Some of
us were excited about the thought
of entering Kindergarten although
many of us were frightened. We
were strangers to the school, and
many of us were strangers to each
other. For the first half of
Kindergarten our teacher was Mrs.
Buffinga and for the second half
Mrs. Hoonaard. They both
introduced us to the basics and each
other.
Next was grade one. Our teacher
was Mrs. Battye who took the
basics we had learned from
Kindergarten and put them to work.
Mrs. Battye worked really hard
with us. She introduced us to math
and reading. When you needed help
she was always there.
Grade two was the next
challenge. Our teacher for this year
was Mrs. Little. All the subjects
came into more detail this year. It
was more difficult but Mrs. Little
always knew how to liven up the
class, which made it easier.
Grade three came quickly, too
quickly in fact. This was the most
difficult grade for most of us. Mrs.
Roberts was our teacher. If we did
anything wrong she'd grab us by
our ear and take us to see the
principal. We all came out looking
like Dumbo after this grade. It
wasn't because we were bad, we
just liked to have fun and see how
long the teachers could take it
before they snapped. We continued
this tradition right up to this very
moment. But underneath these
points Mrs. Roberts was a real
caring person.
Well, now we were heading into
grade four. That meant we were
already halfway through the
system. Mrs. Charter was our
teacher for this year. She was an
excellent artist, and an excellent
teacher. We had a lot of fun this
year. We were actually turning into
something - what, we didn't know
but we could feel it. The teachers
thought we were turning into
something, a disaster that is!
Grade five was the next grade on
our hit list. Our teacher was Mrs.
Hulley, (nu nu nu nu nu nu nu nu).
This class was covered in plants, it
looked like the rain forest, you had
to be careful that you didn't get
lost. She hasn't got a green thumb
that's for sure. I got proof of this.
Just take a walk in the grade eight
room. One thing about Mrs. Hulley
you never want to get her mad, I
mean never. As Kathy Fraser
always says, “She can bring in the
boats from Goderich.” But Mrs.
Hulley is a great English and
Geography teacher. We have a lot
of laughs with Mrs. Hulley. She is
another one that can always liven
up a crowd. Way to be Mrs. Hulley.
The next teacher to torture was
Mr. Livermore. He was the most
sports-minded person I have ever
seen. Everything we did had to do
with sports, even math! He loves
Phys Ed and it shows; he is'a great
Phys Ed teacher. Also, he was the
best spelling teacher our class has
ever seen. We always worked hard
in his class because he would give
out prizes if we did a good job.
Next was the “METHOD
WOMAN.” Miss Morgan had a
scientific method for everything
even, for sharpening our pencils.
She was the weirdest teacher we
ever had, she was so serious we
weren't too sure if she was human.
But she was the best science
teacher we had.
Now we're in grade eight, we
pretty well get to run the school -
at least Mr. Sygrove let us think
that, so Mrs. Hulley says. This year
was filled with many memorable
moments that will stay with us for
many years. Mr. Sygrove was our
teacher and our principal. He was
an excellent math teacher and a
great friend. Mr. Sygrove always
pushed us to do our best, to rise us
above the rest. He always told us to
move onwards and upwards. This
advice will always stay with us.
Along the way we have also had
many other teachers. Our current
French teacher is Mr. Hooftman, a
great French teacher, but please
give up the jokes. Before Mr.
Hooftman, came our French
teacher Mr. Marsh who was also
the Librarian of the school. Our
current librarian is Mrs. Webster.
She always keeps the library in
order. She also helps out with the
music classes. We have had two
