The Newton team came out very strong with four goals in the first half. Blyth finally got on the score board at the end of the first half as Kevin Campbell took a long shot and hit the crossbar then Rolf Frsehknecht got the rebound. After a good pep talk at half time, Blyth proved to be a match for the opposing team. Rolf again Motorcycle envy Two visitors to the Blyth Rutabaga Festival Saturday had the chance to question members of the Metro Toronto Police Winged Wheels squad after their spectacular show. Children’s Aid Society to host summer camp The Huron County Children's Aid Society is entering its 18th year of operating its summer camp for disadvantaged children with antici­ pation of more children registering than usual. The Society expects 225 children to attend residential camp or take part in daily and weekly activities with agency employed camp work­ ers. The purpose of this community funded program is to provide posi­ tive recreational experiences for children who are experiencing dif­ ficulty with behaviour, school or home. Campers attend a variety of resi­ dential camps such as Menesctung, went in and beat the goalie on the far left. Newton came back with one more to make it 5-2 in their favour. Blyth didn't give up as Greg Blok made a long pass up the side line to Brad Anderson who beat three defending players and made the cross-over pass to Ronnie Rinn who easily beat the goalie. Blyth played a good game and Jerry Mason gave Blyth good goal tending. Huron Church and Glen Huron. Day program activities take advan­ tage of those offered by local recre­ ation boards as well as individually planned events. The children are given an oppor­ tunity to develop new socialization skills which enable them to work well and cooperatively within a group. They participate in sports and craft activities that give them a positive sense of accomplishment leading to improved self-esteem. Pitcher Nathan Conley struck out two and a quick defensive play by first baseman Patrick Gilkes ended the inning with only one run scored. Brussels overtook Winthrop early, scoring three runs in their Brussels Bandits take first place The Brussels Bandits Squirt soccer team moved into first place with a couple of victories in North Perth soccer league action. The Bandits defeated the Brussels Kickers 5-2 with two goals by Lee Dilworth and singles by Nolan Krotz, Darryl Houston and Scott McDonald. Joel Hemingway replied with both goals Belgrave Squirt Boys lose to Gowanstown The Belgrave Squirt Boys suf­ fered two defeats this past week against Gowanstown on June 22, and June 25. The first game was played away and ended in a 26 to eight score for the home team. The first inning was close with three runs scored for each. Tom Pfeiffer, Jeremy Campbell and Jamie McCallum crossed the plate for Belgrave. However, Gowanstown dominat­ ed the second inning getting eight runs to Belgrave's none. Belgrave added another three, with runs scored by Robbie McGee, Justin Campbell and Jamie McCallum, but the home team came up with seven. Tom Pfeiffer scored a run in each of the fourth and fifth, but it wasn't enough as the Gowanstown team Blyth Mosquitos sting competition On June 15, Blyth Mosquito soccer team hosted the Lucknow Cougars. Blyth was eager for another win and opened the scoring early in the game with Christina Black getting her own rebound for a goal. The second of the night was set up by Michael Courtney and scored by Kelly Boven. Amanda Anderson and Shawna Stryker assisted on a goal by Cappy Onn and Kelly got his second of the night unassisted. The second half was played much the same as Christina assisted on Kelly's third goal and added a fourth to his total unassisted. Michael Ansley got the final goal after a big scramble in front of the net. Blyth won the game 7-0. Blyth travelled to Clinton on June 25 for their fifth win of the year. The game started slowly, but Blyth did have lots of offence which put them up by two goals by the end of the first half. Jeff Cowan scored unassisted and Michael Courtney scored from a pass from Christina Black. Newton scored midway through the second half to narrow the margin before Lee Dilworth scored his second goal late in the kept the heat on with two and two in those innings, and another four in the sixth. The second game was in Bel­ grave and again Gowanstown dom­ inated play. The first inning Robbie McGee, Justin Campbell and Jeremy Camp­ bell answered back to the four runs scored by Gowanstown in the top half, but were shut out the next three innings while Gowanstown added another 10 runs. It was a more even inning in the fifth with Michael Sanders, Marc Alexander, Brian Sanders, Michael McBurney, Justin Campbell and Jamie McCallum all scoring, but it wasn't enough as Gowanstown couldn't be held back, and scored another five. The. final score was 19-9 for the visitors. with another five goals. Goal scorers were Michael Ansley from Justin Sauve, Justin from Michael Ansley, Michael Courtney from Christina Black, Kelly Boven from Jason Howatt, and April VanAmersfoort from Mathew Morrison.
