Contest finalists
Two students from Grey Central Public school in Ethel were finalists in the 1992 Forest
Prevention poster and slogan contest. The two students, Jeff Finch and Jason Snider, were
presented their finalist award, in the grade seven and eight category, at the school's award

Reunion held in Hullett school
The 47th annual Nethery-
Leishman reunion was held on
Sunday, June 28, at Hullett Central
School in Londesboro with 42
signing the register. Ella Ives of
Blyth was in charge of the sports,
which was enjoyed by all.
Guests were present from
Alberta, Decker Michigan,
Corunna, Kitchener, London,
Goderich, Wingham, Clinton,
Londesboro, Blyth, Belgrave and
the surrounding district.
Following the supper hour, the
president, Larry Fisher of RR 2,
Clinton was in charge of the
meeting. He announced the deaths
during the past year: Brandon
Lammerant, Esmond Johnston, Bill
Bailie and Jonathan Potter. A few
moments' silence followed in
remembrance.
Special prizes were awarded by
Larry Fisher to: youngest person
present, Rhea Virkutis, daughter of
Robert and Debbie Virkutis of
London; oldest person present,
Myrtle Barker of Goderich; person
coming the longest distance,
Gordon Nethery of Alberta; also
whose birthday was nearest June
28, Violet Cooper. The lucky plate
was won by Trevor and Tyler
Huffman; guessing the number of
candies in a jar, Dini Nethery; the
guess the answer contest, Jean
Nethery and Donna Johnston.
A treat of watermelon was given
to everyone by Sara Gregg of
London.
The 1993 Nethery-Leishman
reunion will be held on June 26 at
Londesboro.
The president for next year is
Jack Nethery of Corunna, and
secretary-treasurer is Mary Isabel
Nethery of Belgrave.

Woman attends graduation
Hazel Watkins and Beth Knox
visited Ethel Battin in Tillsonburg
last week on Thursday June 25.
Hazel Watkins was a guest at the
grade eight graduation of her
granddaughter, Kristy Holgworth at
Wallace Public School. Kristy will
be a student at Palmerston High
School in September.
Congratulations to Joe Hunking
and Clara Riley for placing second
in cribbage against 26 teams at the
senior games in St. Marys on
Tuesday.
Friends and neighbours of (Jakie)
Wallace McDougal will be sorry to
hear he as a broken hip resulting
from a fall. He is presently a
patient in Stratford General
Hospital.
The best wishes of the
community are extended to him for
a speedy recovery.
From June 18 to June 26, Theresa
Knox visited in Fort Chipewyan,
Alberta with Sonya Vouageur. The
girls participated in the Canada 125
Voyageurs exchange program,
June 4 — 11. Sonya had visited
Huron County with nine other
young people from Alberta. They
visited Wonderland, Niagara Falls,
local farming operations, Goderich
attractions and the Blyth Festival
presentation of Kanashibetsu.
Saturday June 26, Melanie Knox
left for Kirkland Lake. She will be
spending the summer as a
counsellor at an Easter Seal camp
for disabled children.
Cheerio Club meets
The June meeting of the Cheerio
Club was held at the home of Beth
Knox on June 25.
Edythc Bcacom read pieces on
"June" and "Giving and Forgiving".
Beth read a piece on The Ladies
Aid.
The minutes of the May meeting
and Financial Report were given.
Roll call was answered by nine
members and one visitor.
Collection and draw money were
taken up. The draw, donated by
Beth, was won by Clara Riley.
The July meeting will be Group
One.
Church news
Greeters at church on Sunday
June 28 were Trevor and Cheryl
Trewartha. Ushers were Mark and
Laurel Mitchell, John Hoggart and
Trevor Trewartha.
Guest sneaker was Sharon
Wurm. Her message was "Who Do
You Reflect?".
Kon Greidanus played two piano
solos, "Rachmaninoffs Rhapsody
on Paganini Theme" and Chopin's
"Waltz in E Minor".
