The crowd filled the lawns, awaiting the season's first play, The Puff 'n' Blow Boys by Valoreyne Brandt Jenkins. Reunion celebrates 100th birthday BY KATIE KIEFFER Over the past month and a half the Centre has kept busy with programs, fundraisers and special events. Guest speakers from National Trust, Town & Country Home­ makers and the Canadian Mental Health Association each gave presentations which prompted good questions and discussions. Everyone enjoyed a “Romancing the Violin”. The Kitchener- Waterloo Symphony sponsored this free matinee performance for seniors. On Saturday, May 23, the Centre hosted a garage sale. The Centre participated in Canada's Fitweek on Wed., May 27. Spacetrek 2000 is a special division of Fitweek for Canadians 55 years of age and over. Sixty-six people took part in a 20-minute walk and then relaxed in Cruick- shank Park. Special thanks to Donald Dunbar from Ethel, who played the bagpipes in the procession; the Mayor of Wingham, Ian Mooreland; Anna Johnstone, Lucknow for carrying the Spacetrek 200 banner; Tom Smith, Wingham for hoisting the town's flag and Gord's Old Tyme Band for providing entertainment in the park. June is Seniors Month and to help celebrate the Huron County Health Unit and Town and Country Homemakers are sponsoring a Seniors’ Health Fair. The Health Fair will be held Wednesday, June 17 from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. at the Wingham and Area Seniors Day Centre. _____________ PLANT PARADISE Graduation Rain didn't dampen the spirits of 63 descendants of the late John Taylor and his wife Elizabeth Ingle as they travelled from St. Catharines, Blyth, Dorchester, Harriston, Elmira, Wroxeter, London, Michigan, Guelph, Auburn, Etobicoke, Brussels, Toronto, Wingham, Belgrave, Kincardine, Dashwood and Orillia to the farm of Bill and Doreen Taylor of East Wawanosh Township for a smorgasbord dinner Sunday, June 7. The occasion was to celebrate the 100th birthday of the Taylor farm house. The oldest descendant, Russel Wilson of Blyth, who is 97 years young, was on present. The president Glen Taylor welcomed everyone after which Murray Taylor of Wingham asked the blessing. Following the first course a short business meeting took place. A moment of silence was observed for the late Marion Cook of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, wife of Ronald Cook and daughter-in-law of the late Luella Cook. The committees and officers elected for 1993 are as follows: President, David Anderson; Vice President, Jack Hunt; Secretary- Treasurer, Doreen Taylor; Lunch Committee, Barb Gilmore, Ada Taylor, Games, Biloy family. Next year's Taylor reunion will be held on the last Sunday in June at the Taylor cottage at Port Albert. The weather cleared and everyone moved outside for games. Log sawing was won by Barry Dane and Andrew Jaunzemis. Nail driving for the ladies was won by Lisa Taylor, and Bill Taylor for the men. The children went on a treasure hunt and other games were enjoyed. The climax of the day was a hay ride over the Taylor farm. ALCOCK Brian Alcock, son of Ross and Cora Alcock of Brussels, graduated from The University of Guelph on June 2, 1992, with an Associate Diploma in Agriculture. Announcement Graduation Heather Elizabeth McIntosh, daughter of John and Marie McIntosh, RR 5 Brussels, received her Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a major in Child Studies at University of Guelph on Friday, June 5th. Attending the convocation were her parents and friends, Mr. Paul Smit, Tara, Miss Jennifer Bolton of Deep River and Debbie Kern of Woodstock. Congratulations Heather! Graduation LEANNE ARMSTRONG WHITFIELD Graduation ALCOCK Jeffrey Alcock, son of Ross arid Cora Alcock of Brussels, graduated from Wilfred Laurier University on May 30, 1992, with an Honours Bachelor of Arts. She graduated from Wilfred Laurier University with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Internship Option, and was named to the Dean's Honour List. Leanne is continuing her studies at the University of Western Ontario where she has been accepted in the 3- year Speech-Language Pathology Master's degree program. Congratulations Leanne. Love from mom, dad, all your family and friends. Dale is very proud to announce the graduation of his wife Sharon Whitfield, from the Registered Nurse Program at Fanshawe College. Sharon was the recipient of the Hester Gowan Proficiency Award and the Atkinson Charitable Foundation Bursary Award. Graduation ceremonies were held on June 12, 1992 at Fanshawe College and Wonderland Gardens. Sharon is presently working at both Victoria and University Hospitals.
