Knox Church, Goderich site of wedding Jennifer and Walter Johnston CULBERT-JOHNSTON Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich was the setting of the May 2, 1992 wedding uniting Jen­ nifer Culbert of Goderich and Wal­ ter Johnston of RR1, Auburn. Rev. David Nicholson officiated at the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Barry Culbert of Goderich and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Larry Johnston of RR1, Auburn. The bride's sister Julie Baer of RR3, Auburn was the matron-of- honour. Bridal attendants were Grace Johnston of Waterloo, sister of the groom; Alison Powell of London, friend of the bride and Tanya Butson of Woodstock, cousin of the bride. Mike Chalmers, a friend of the groom from Hamilton was grooms­ man. Ushering in the guests were Brian Buffinga of London, cousin of the groom; Jeff Peck of London, friend of the groom and Lloyd McGillivray of Paisley, friend of the groom. A reception was held at the Goderich Community Centre in Holmesville. The couple spent their honey­ moon in Manzanillo, Mexico. They are residing at RR1, Auburn. Paul Acton, 887-9273 congregation from Wellesley Unity, topic of sermon Greeters at Blyth United Church on June 14 were Fred and Rose de Boer. Ushers were Herb and Bonnie Shannon and sons. The junior congregation was led by Mary Lou Stewart and nursery was looked after by Pat Jenkins. Rev. Ramirez opened the service with call to worship, after which the hymn “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee,” was sung. The responsive reading was No. 621. Scripture lessons were from Genesis 11: 1-9, Acts 2: 1-21. Hymn “Spirit of God Descend Upon My Heart” was sung. The anthem “Sometimes Alleluia” was beautifully sung by the choir accompanied by John Ramirez. Rev. Ramirez' sermon was on “Unity” Communion was served by the elders. The service closed with the singing of the hymn “Here O My Lord I See Thee”, followed by commissioning benediction and choral response. On Sunday, June 7, the Brussels Mennonitc Fellowship congrega­ tion joined with the Wellesley Mennonite Congregation for a joint service after which there was a barbecue. Sunday, June 14 was Children's Sunday at Brussels Mennonite. The children, directed by Elaine Hiller, sang a group of songs for the congregation. Amy Demaray and Destiny Lichty also sang a duet. Andrea Hiller and Joy-Ellen Greenwood also played flutes. Eric Wideman read the scripture, Luke 18: 15-17. Pastor Tom gave the message. Just as little children love their parents and obey them because they love them and want to please them, we (adults and children alike) should obey God because we love Him and want to please Him. During the Christian Education Hour, the Adults and Youth gathered in the chapel to discuss future plans for the Church. A fellowship meal was held at the noon hour and the afternoon was spent with games and fellowship for all ages. Calvin-Brick to host Fall Rally in Belgrave The general meeting of the Brussels United Church Women was in the church basement on June 3 with 23 ladies present. Joan welcomed the ladies and opened the worship with a poem “Thought For The Day, the Forgotten Friend”. The hymn “The Glory of Spring, Oh How Sweet” was sung. The scripture reading from John 15 was given to Jeannette Boynton. Joan introduced the guest speaker, Margaret Jacis who delivered her speech on the meaning of life. Margaret came first to Eastern Canada on June 6 and will be speaking in Niagara Falls. She is a candidate for the Lions Club speaking contest. President Gertie Kellington thanked the ladies and Margaret. The secretary's report was read and approved and the treasurer's report was read. Pat Watson reported on the catering group. The ladies are to look after the Sunday School and church picnic on June 14. More cook books were ordered. The Fall Rally is to be held in Belgrave hosted by Calvin-Brick U.C.W. A donation was given to the Board of Stewards. MICHAEL CUMMINGS Michael Andrew Cummings of Milverton and formerly of Goderich and Brussels, passed away at Alexandra Marine and General Hospital on Thursday, June 4, 1992. He was 63. A son of the late Edward and Elizabeth Cummings, Mr. Cum­ mings was bom in Huron County. He was a member of the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Ghurch in Hesson. He was employed as the manager of the Countryside Furni­ ture at the Waterloo Stockyards. Mr. Cummings was the beloved husband of Eileen (Purvis) Cum­ mings. He was the dear father of Paul of Kitchener, and Marie and her husband Dave Salm of Goderich. He will be remembered by his brothers and sisters, Frank of Welland, Edward of Belgrave, Fer­ gus of Toronto, Bernard of Aylmer, Margaret Popielinski of Kansas, and Teresa Peters of Arizona. Mr. Cummings will also be sadly missed by five grandchildren, Lesly and Diana Cummings, and Marica, Mark and Crystal Salm. He was predeceased by three brothers, and two sisters. A funeral mass was held at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Hesson on Saturday, June 6. Father Adam Gabriel officiated. Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, Mil­ verton was in charge of funeral arrangements. Interment was at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church Cemetery in Hesson. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. Decoration ceremonies The Blyth Legion held its annual decoration ceremonies June 14 at the Blyth Union Cemetery. Here Pastor James H. Carne of the Missionary Church in Auburn gives a reading.
