U.C.W. to hold
meeting in form
of birthday party
The Afternoon Unit of the
U.C.W. held their meeting in the
school room of Knox United
Church June 8 with Mrs. Audrey
Fenton in charge. Twelve people
attended.
After the reading in unison on
Psalm 23 the minutes of the last
meeting were adopted as read. Mrs.
Mary Hunter gave the treasurer's
report in the treasurer's absence.
It was decided to have the
August meeting in the form of a
birthday party for those who have
reached their 80th and over
birthdays.
For worship, Mrs. Olive Bolt
opened with the first three verses of
hymn “Take Time To Be Holy”.
For meditation she used Acts 20:
35 and from Daily Pathways
“Extend a Hand”. She then had the
story of a farm boy who rescued a
city boy from drowning. The farm
boy was eager to have more
education and went on to become
the discoverer of penicillin, Doctor
Alexander Fleming. He saved the
city boy, now a grown man from -
pneumonia. She then concluded I
this part with hymn “Showers of I
Blessing” and prayer.
Mrs. Mary Hunter used for the I
Bible Study Matthew 7: 7-11 on I
the power of prayer and evidence I
that prayer works. The young may I
have to be taught how to pray. I
Many are shy of speaking of their I
personal prayer life. Most people I
who pray feel that at least some of I
their prayers are answered but not
always in the way that they have
sought.
Mrs. Kay Roberts for Mission
Study “Is There Hope in the Face
of Poverty?” She concluded by
reading chapter 20 of Isaiah.
Mrs. Fenton concluded the
meeting with prayer.
