AuburnThe news from Compiled by Mildred Lawlor Phone 526-7589 W.M.S. enjoy sing-song The June meeting of the Presbyterian W.M.S. was held at the home of Carole Daer. President Martha Daer opened the meeting with a poem. She welcomed all present. Special guests were the Rev. McWhinnie and Mrs. McWhinnie of the Presbyterian Church in Goderich. Frances Clark led the devotional Soloist inspires congregation Helen Baumbach sang a very delightful solo at Auburn Missionary Church on Sunday, June 14. She inspired the congregation by singing, “Jesus Paid It All.” Pastor Came's message entitled, “The Right Time and The Right Place” was taken from the scripture of Mark 10: 46 - 52. Bartimaeus had never been able to be where Jesus was and this was the last time Jesus was passing through this part of the country. What if Bartimaeus had procrastinated. He could have made many excuses but he called out to Jesus. It was the right time. God has a timetable. In these last days God has spoken to his through His Son. How much we miss if we miss God's timing. There is the right place. The place is where God speaks to us. There is the right way. None can predict God's way but if we don't accept God's way we will lose out. We need to respond by faith. On Sunday, June 21 Rev. Marty Verk will be speaking at Auburn Missionary Church. On Sunday, June 28 Rev. Grant Sloss of Kitchener, a former district superintendent of the Canada East Missionary Church Conference will be the guest. Special music is by the Harvesters Quartette. Rev. Ross tells children's story Rev. Paul Ross conducted the morning service at Knox United Church and Nancy Park was organist. Rev. Ross gave the Prayers of Approach and con­ fession followed by hymn “The Lord is King”. Rev. Ross told the children's story and everyone sang “Give Me Oil In My Lamp” followed by the Lord's Prayer in unison. A choir that Kevin Webster had organized sang lovely selections accompanied by Nancy Park at the pianos “Will Your Anchor Hold” was sung. The Sacrament of Holy Com­ munion took place with liturgy read alternately. The offering was received by Larry Plaetzer and Bob Worsell and dedicated. The closing hymn, “Thy Hand, O God Has Guided” was sung. Rev. Ross pronounced the benediction. CEC has ball team The Canada Employment Centre For Students in Listowel has organized a baseball team to challenge the CKNX Try-Hards in a slow-pitch tournament. All proceeds from the refreshment booth will be given to Big Brothers of Canada to support their work in the local area. The game is being played at the Fordwich Community baseball diamond at 8:00 p.m. the night of Thursday, June 18. period. The scriptu/e reading was from First Timothy 6 which was read alternately. The meditation was on “The House With the Golden Windows” followed by prayer. She also read about “The Other Fellow's Job”. Rev. McWhinnie played several sacred selections on his guitar and a sing-song was enjoyed. Martha read a piece about the church in Mozambique. Mr. McWhinnie then spoke about the different women in the gospel of St. Luke. Carole read a piece “Summers Come”, then Rev. McWhinnie gave the closing prayer. Grant Chisholm of Guest speaks about photos The Horticultural Society held their meeting at the Community Hall, Wednesday evening, June 10 with a good attendance. Anne Vincent, the president chaired the meeting. “O Canada” was sung with Marjorie McDougall as pianist. The secretary, Dorothy People > Mrs. Jean Hodgins and Mrs. Evelyn Crawford of Wingham visited with Tom and Ruth Jardin last Friday. Mr. William Anderson of Newmarket spent the weekend with his mother Bernice Anderson. Joan Doerr of Niagara Falls and Sheila Belli of Toronto visited Mr. and Mrs. Bud Chamney on the weekend. Grange read the minutes of the last meeting. The treasurer Ell Lapp gave the financial statement. Dorothy Grange gave reports on the meetings she had attended. There was a discussion on flowers at the Auburn letters and the work to be done on the hill. The program committee took over and Laura May Chamney introduced the guest speaker, photographer Colleen Maguire, who gave an excellent talk on the taking of pictures, background, and light. Smith, Secretary A question and answer period took place. Gail Dobie won a film. Linda Plaetzer thanked Colleen for a splendid presentation. Marion Haggitl had a contest which was won by Marjorie McDougall, Frances Clark and Dorothy Grange. The marked chairs were won by Mildred Lawlor, Frances Clark and Lou Isaac. Grace was sung and lunch was served by the hostesses. Lucky serviettes were won by Dorothy Grange and Evelyn Christensen. A social time was enjoyed.
