Group Committee plants trees
At the May 13 meeting of the
Blyth Group Committee it was
reported that $261.06 was raised at
the bake sale on May 2, and
$130.90 was raised by the bottle
drive. The group committee
expressed gratitude to the mothers
of the boys for donating the baked
goods, and to the community for
supporting the scouting movement
by buying the delicious goodies,
and by donating their empty
bottles. The money raised has been
used to purchase tents for the
upcoming camping weekend on
May 29-31. Fifteen boys, four
leaders and six parents were also
busy planting 2,100 trees for the
Trees for Canada project, after
which they enjoyed a well-earned
barbecue.
Audrey Patterson reported that
following the May 19 meeting, the
Beavers will finish the year May 30
at the Beavoree in Benmiller.
Group Committee will pay for the
boys' registration fee, for Beavers,
Cubs and Scouts.
May 13 the boys sat in on the
Group Committee meeting. May
16-18 they boarded their bicycles
for a 52 km. bike-hike and
campout. On Sunday they bicycled
into Goderich where Captain Mike
Grew took the boys on a tour of the
Coast Guard cutter, Cape Hurd. For
their May 20 meeting they visited
the Hullett municipal office, where
Jim Johnston took the boys on a
tour of the facilities, explaining the
function of the municipal council
and the operation of the machinery
used. The Scouts have initiated
some fundraising plans to raise the
money necessary to attend the
Canadian Jamboree in Alberta in
July, 1993.
Jeff Josling, of the Blyth
Venturers was presented with the
Chief Scout Award on May 13 at
the Group Committee meeting.
Congratulations were extended to
him by all of the members present.
He reported that the Venturers are
very busy with fundraising projects
for their Yellowknife trip. They
provided assistance at Klompen
Feest May 16-17, and have a bike-
a-thon planned.
