Dairy princesses make milkshakes with students
EDITORS:
MS. THORPE-HEARN'S
GRADE FIVE/SIX CLASS
Kindergarten
The Kindergarten class has been
welcoming the new Kindergartens
for next year, by having them come
to school for a half day. The names
of the new students are Amy Cook,
Brett Mason, Jamie Weber, Curtis
Kuntz, Kyle Procter, Nathan
Mason, Nicole Meier, Leanne
Mullin, Mark Campbell, Nicole
Walker, Orrey Bromley, Aimee
Leishman, Carly Kangster, Dennis
Procter, Jacob Dettweiler, Kevin
Frei burger, Lance Frieburger and
Bridget Kellington.
The Dairy Princess was in their
class and they really enjoyed the
milkshake and video she showed
them. The Kindergartens made
baskets with flowers in them and
pictures for Mother's Day.
GRADE ONE
Mrs. Brydges' grade one class
was very excited about their trip to
Storybook Gardens on Friday, May
15. They have really enjoyed
having French with Mr. Proulx this
week while their regular French
teacher was away on the grade
seven-eight Quebec trip. They have
also learned a whole bunch of
interesting facts about Lady Bugs
this past week.
CDCS students
win at Fine
Arts Festival
Many of the entries presented by
the students of the Clinton and
District Christian School at the
recent Fine Arts Festival were
winners.
Excellent results were attained
particularly in the solo-singing
class. Awarded first place were:
Jessica Van Maar grade two, John-
eric Pardys grade five, and Julie
Jongejan grade eight. Second place
standing was awarded to Rachel
DeBoer grade four. In the duet
category, Karina Thompson and
Amanda VanDyke placed second;
Carlena VanDriel and Rachel
Bylsma were third. The latter duet
was accompanied by Frances
Reinink. These girls were all from
grade six. A folk group singing
“The Circuit Preacher” tied for
third place.
In the speaking divisions the
students also did very well. Walter
Miedema of grade six placed
second with his poetry recitation of
“Father William”. Rachel Damsma
of grade four placed third in the
interpretive reading class, with
Harmony Visscher of grade seven
placing second in the same area.
Karen Damsma of grade five
placed first in public speaking with
her speech on “Fashions”. Lynda
Dykstra of grade eight placed third
in her public speaking class.
The drama entry, Goldilocks and
the Three Bears, was very well
performed. A colourful set of
background props helped to set the
scene. The production won third.
Other classes at the festival were:
choral speaking, instrumental
music, and recorder playing. The
latter two were not entered by
Clinton. The festival was held
jointly at the facilities of the
London Parental Christian School
and the Royalview Pentecostal
Church. An evening concert
included many superb winning
entries and singing by a large
massed choir made up of choirs
from the member schools of the
Woodstock Christian School
District. This year the Christian
school from Chatham was also
included by special request. Il was
a very special day that featured fine
presentations of God-given talents
and skills.
-GRADE TWO
Mrs. Dodd's grade two class is
having lots of fun watching their
bean and marigold seeds grow.
They have just started getting work
together for the school fair. The
grade twos are taking reading and
writing suitcases home again.
Yesterday, they had a special
visitor ... The Dairy Princess. The
class talked about how a dairy farm
works and made a “Great Grape
Shake-Up”.
Mrs. Hessels' grade two class
was excited about their trip to
Storybook Gardens on Friday, May
15 with the grade one class. They
were really hoping to see the
walruses. Chris Kuntz' birthday
was on Thursday, May 14. He
turned eight-years-old. The class
wanted to wish him a very happy
birthday and thank him for sharing
his birthday cake with them.

Princesses and puppets
Students at East Wawanosh Public School met princesses
and puppets last Wednesday when the Ontario Dairy
Princess, Heather McIntosh (back, left) and the Huron
County Dairy Princess (back, right) visited the school. The
princesses used hand puppets, held here by students (left
to right) Katie Van Camp, Kimberly Frieburger, Jeremy
Leishman and Adam McBurney, to teach the children
about the different breeds of cattle which make up the
dairy industry.

They are almost finished their pet
centres. They really enjoyed the
Dairy Princess's visit and making
milkshakes. Vicky Black said the
milkshake “tasted a lot like
peaches”. Jason Fear said “It was
goooood!” Andra Dettweiler said it
was great!” On Thursday, May 28,
the grade threes are going to
Walton Public School to visit their
penpals. They can hardly wait.
GRADE FOUR
Mr. Fisher's grade four class's
farms are really beginning to take
shape. They have finished the
Canada Fitness program and will
be receiving badges soon. N*ne
people will receive ‘Excellent’
badges. Mr. Fisher found some
tadpoles at his brother-in-law's
farm and brought them to class.
In Physical Education class, the
fours have been divided into two
teams for Two-Pitch, the first game
score was 2 - 2, and the second
game score was 4-4. The
competition is tough.
GRADE FIVE
Mr. Kerr's grade five class is '
studying about cereal. They
brought in different samples of
cereal to try. David Piluke and
Jason Howatt are sharing the books
that they made with the class. The
grade fives wanted to say “Happy
Birthday” to Matthew Beck, Jason
Howatt, Peter Irwin and Brian
Sinclair. This week, Jeremy
Sallows is the “All About Me”
person on display.
GRADE FIVE/SIX
The class spent the week
finishing off their Social Studies
unit on Early Settlers and
beginning their Disabled Novel
Study groups, Flight Activities and
two new Social Studies units on
Mexico (grade six) and
Canada/Ontario (grade five).
In Science, they began studying
the Solar System. There were two
special visitors to the class this
week: Constable John Marshall of
the Goderich O.P.P. who spoke on
the dangers of drugs and showed
his kit of “pretend” drugs, and Miss
Morgan Murray, Huron County's
1991-92 Dairy Princess, who made
a Hawaiian punch milkshake and
taught the difference between the
various breeds of cows.
But, the highlight of the week
really had to be playing in the
schoolyard without most of the
grade sevens and eights. It was nice
almost being the oldest.
GRADE SEVEN AND EIGHT
Most of Mrs. Gross's grade seven
class and Mr. Bartlett's grade eight
class were away this past week
visiting Quebec City. Those who
stayed behind had a visit from the
Dairy Princess, worked on projects
and wrote elaborate stories on the
computers. They enjoyed the
smaller teacher-student ratio and all
the attention they received.
