THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, MAY 20,1992. PAGE 17. New OMAF building provides ample space for meetings continued from page 1 Taylor. Bob Humphries Agricultural Representative for Huron County said the new building would help his stall serve the agricultural pro ducers of the county better. Good soil and a good climate have attracted some of the best agricul turalists in Ontario to Huron and the county leads the province in the production of food. The producers deserve the expanded services the new building can offer, he said. Warden Fisher said a recent county study into agriculture showed people felt there was a need for diversification in the econ omy. There should be more pro cessing facilities for agricultural products, he said, pointing out that there is no red meat processing plant in Huron and with all the talk Ready and open Huron County’s new OMAF building in Clinton was officially opened on Thursday. The 8900 square foot building offers plenty of improvements over the old downtown-Clinton location including ample parking and plenty of space for farm groups to meet. of ethanol processing plants, Huron would be a logical place to put one. Paul Klopp referred to the long wait for Huron to get its new build ing. "This thing has been starting and stopping more times than I probably had dates," he said. "I don't think I'd ever have dreamt I'd be at the opening of the new Ag. office. Mr. Wilson said he also knew how long Huron had waited for the office. Several years ago a proto type OMAF office had been designed by government staff and this was the third variation on that design, the first two being at Avon more and Petrolia. This, he felt, was an improved version with large windows allowing in lots of natural light. He pointed out the funding for the $968,000 project came through the provincial governmen t's anti-recession program. Build ing of the office provided jobs for 12 local sub-trades, he said. Elmer Buchanan said one of the first things Paul Klopp had got him to do after he became minister was to tour the old Huron OMAF build ing in downtown Clinton to see the cramped conditions under which staff were trying to serve the Huron county farm community. Saying the farming economy is the back- bone of the Huron economy, Mr. Buchanan said the new building will provide the setting for the best services that the farmers of the county deserve. Following the ribbon cutting, the guests had a chance to tour the new facility which provides small indi vidual offices for each of the coun sellors on staff where several shared cramped quarters in the past. The building also provides several areas for farm meetings and semi nars to take place.
