The Guides toured Belgrave, pucking up any litter they found. Belgrave Girl Guides helped clean up their community Tuesday night last week when they took part in the Pitch-In campaign to rid the village of litter. B elgraveThe news from Compiled by Helen Stonehouse Phone 887-9487 Life of Ruth read at WMS meeting The W.M.S. held their meeting on Monday, May 11 at the home of Mrs. Alice Nicholson. “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah” was sung. Mrs. Ivy Cloakey read scripture from Ruth. Mrs. Lottie Scott led in prayer. The secretary report was given by Mrs. Margaret Siertsema and Mrs. Cloakey gave the treasurer's report. The roll call was answered with the name of a mother of the Bible. Mrs. Nicholson gave a report on the Presbyterial meeting and the spring rally. She read a story on the life of Ruth from the Bible. Poems and stories on the theme of Mother's Day were read. “O God of Bethel by whose Hand” was sung. It was decided to hold the next meeting June 8. Edgar relatives attend funeral Visitors at the home of Mrs. Mabel Wheeler on Mother's Day were Mr. and Mrs. Don Rae, Jamie and Ian of Guelph and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Coultes of Wingham. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Johnston of Welland returned home on Friday after spending a week with his brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Johnston. All attended the Thompson and McDonald wedding at Goderich. Many Edgar relatives attended the funeral service of little Nicole Cortes (infant daughter of Richard and Joanne Cortes) held at Grace United Church, Tavistock, Saturday, May 9. Interment was in Grace United Cemetery, Tavistock. UCW women discuss religious practices The Afternoon Unit of the U.C.W. was held May 11 in the school room of the church with an attendance of 13 and Mrs. Audrey Fenton in charge. Mrs. Alice Scott was in charge of the worship, “Growing in the Joy of Living” and the hymn, “This is My Father's World” with Mrs. Dorothy Coultes at the piano. Mrs. Olive Bolt read Psalm 104: 1-14 and verse 24 in keeping with the theme of “Growing”. Mrs. Scott, for meditation, read a story, “The Wonder of All Growth”, followed by the hymn, “Birds are Singing” and prayer. For Bible Study, Mrs. Sarah Anderson talked about “The Truth and the Hearer” from Matthew 1: 6 which brought forth some discussion on who can take communion and other religious practices. In.the early days one had to have been baptized before taking communion. Mrs. Edith Vincent read for study “Some Reflections on Famine and Poverty.” How do we decide who are the poor? A pickup truck cost $1,875. Today a pickup truck costs 10 times more, while custom feeding has increased three times.
