Horticulturalists discuss fixing up evaporator hill
The Auburn Horticultural Society
meeting was held on Wednesday,
May 13 at 8 p.m. at the Community
Hall with a good attendance.
Missionary youth
attend rally
Living up to one's potential was
the message Pastor Came brought
to the Auburn Missionary Church
on Sunday, May 17.
Scripture was II Peter 1: 1 11. In
verse three it states, “His divine
power has given us everything we
need for life and goodliness.”
Because life is so short it should be
full. Doctors and surgeons use their
potential for helping and healing
but some people just lounge
through life. In the Psalms it says
“God crowned man with glory” so
why use our potential for God’s
glory.
Saul of Tarsus was a very learned
man but his ability was nothing
until he met Jesus. He became a
new creation; the old had gone.
Some marriages cannot go on
because marital problems are
spiritual problems.
The young people of Auburn
Missionary Church spent the
holiday weekend attending ‘Pitch
and Praise’ at Stayner where
approximately 1200 young people
would be there praising the Lord
and studying the Bible.
Community shower
held for Sandra Daer
A community shower in honour
of Sandra Daer was held in the
Auburn Community Hall on
Monday, May 11. The hall was
tastefully decorated with pink and
white streamers, balloons, bells and
bouquets of spring flowers and
pussy willows. Corsages were
presented to the bride, Carol Daer,
and Donna Longman and then they
were escorted to decorated chairs
by Leone Robertson, Barb Cowan
and Doris McClinchey. Anita
Gross acted as chair person for the
evening.
The program consisted of “Here
Comes The Bride,” contest by Barb
Cowan, a vocal solo “Mocking
Bird Hill” by Laura May Chamney,
an Animal Contest by Doreen
McCullough, and a humorous
mono-logue by Darlene Empey. An
address of congratulations was read
by Bernice Gross and the gifts were
presented by Julie Cowan and Julie
and Kim McCullough.
The meeting opened with the
singing of O Canada with Marjorie
McDougall as pianist. President
Ann Vincent read a poem and
welcomed all. Ell Lapp gave the
treasurer's report.
Flower beds and baskets for the
village were discussed and people
named to look after them. Maurice
Bean spoke on fixing up the other
side of the evaporator hill, as one
side was done the previous year.
Secretary Dorothy Grange spoke on
the Ontario Horticultural Conven
tion in London on June 12,13, and
14. Darlene Empey made a
beautiful banner for the Horti
culture Society in royal blue and
white with its emblem, the
madonna lily.
Ann Vincent gave a report on the
District 8 meeting held at Lion's
Head. The business part closed and
there was a large plant sale with
Lois Haines as auctioneer and
helpers Kay Lapp and Betsy
Verwey and a goodly sum was
made.
