HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1992-05-13, Page 31Brussels Livestock Report: Strong demand for all classes of cattle Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending May 8 were: finished cattle: 824; cows, 290; veal calves, 150; lambs and goats, 90; stockers, 1475; and pigs, 174. All classes of cattle sold $1 to $2 higher with strong demand throughout the sale. Cows were $1 to $2 higher. There were 689 steers on offer selling from $81.75 to $96 to the high of $107. Twelve steers consigned by Bruce Bros., Belgrave averaging 1434 lbs. sold for an average of $89.45 to the high of $107 purchased by Norwich Packers. Three steers consigned by Earl Geisel, Elmira averaging 1380 lbs. sold for an average of $96.85 to the high of $106.75. Thirty-five steers consigned by William Bennett & Sons Farms Ltd., Gorrie averaging 1324 lbs. sold for an average of $94 to the high of $99. Forty-one steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averaging 1338 lbs. sold for an average of $92.30 to the high of $106.50. Eighteen steers consigned by Glen Johnston, Bluevale averaging 1339 lbs. sold for an average of $91.45 to the high of $105.50 purchased by Star Brand Packers. Eleven steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira averaging 1425 lbs. sold for an average of $90.70 to the high of $94. Seventeen steers consigned by Cunningham Farms, Lucan averaging 1438 lbs. sold for an average of $90.10 to the high of $94. Twelve steers consigned by Don Shiell, Wingham averaging 1367 lbs. sold for an average of $90 to the high of $92. Twenty-three steers consigned by Maple Ridge Farms, Brussels averaging 1327 lbs. sold for an average of $89.30 to the high of $95.75.Thirty-seven steers consigned by Geo. Under­ wood Farms, Wingham averaging 1346 lbs. sold for $88.15 to the high of $91.30. Fifteen heifers consigned by Lawrence Plaetzer, Auburn averaging 1109 lbs. sold for an average of $86.60 to the high of $91. Three heifers consigned by Murray Johnston, Bluevale averaging 1100 lbs. sold for an average of $87.80 to the high of $91. There were 290 cows on offer selling from $50.70 to $58.50 to the high of $72.75. One cow consigned by Kevin Shiels, Auburn weighing 1010 lbs. sold for $72.75. One cow consigned by Kim Pfeffer, Clifford weighing 1440 lbs. sold for $64.50. One cow consigned by Robert Osborne, Lucknow weighing 1150 lbs. sold for $62.50. There were 150 veal on offer selling from $67.50 to $83.50 to the high of $85.50. Three veal consigned by Lloyd Zehr, Linwood averaging 497 lbs. sold for an average of $82.30 to the high of $83. One veal consigned by Carol Husk, Kincardine, weighing 590 lbs. sold for $83.50. Five veal consigned by Eric Scheurwater, Paisley, averaging 658 lbs. sold for an average of $70.20 to the high of $85.50. There were 174 pigs on offer 110 paper pigs. Fifty to 60 lb. pigs sold to a high of 74 cents per lb.; 60 to 70 lb. pigs to a high of 73 cents per lb.; 70 to 80 lb. pigs to a high of 52 cents per lb. Adam Hamilton of Ethel and Trevor Jacklin of RR 2, Bluevale proudly display the nine pound rainbow trout that didn't get away. Mr. Jacklin caught the fish in a small stream near Belgrave last week.
