Tree service
will make
roadsides
greener
A service that provides trees for
roadside and windbreak planting
continues to be popular with
municipalities and residents in the
Maitland watershed. The Maitland
Valley Conservation Authority
(MVCA) began the Roadside
/Windbreak service five years ago.
In that time about 20,000 trees have
been supplied.
Dave Grummett, MVCA director
of operations, noted that the service
has grown in popularity each year.
The conservation authority
distributed about 5,500 trees to 22
municipalities, and 30 private
landowners in April.
Through the service, hardwood
and coniferous trees are available.
Hardwoods are bare root stock
ranging from six to seven feet in
height. Conifers are root bagged,
and average two feet tall. The
service provides large volumes of
trees for projects such as farm
windbreaks, or roadside planting,
rather than for landscaping use.
Orders can be placed for the
spring of 1993 by contacting the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority in Wroxeter, at 335-
3557. Orders must be received
before September 1st. Those
ordering the trees are responsible
for their pickup and planting.
