DO-SI-DO YOUR PRETTY CORNER LADIES by Zoey Onn and Jennifer Brigham Over the last few weeks the grade seven class has really gotten into the pioneer spirit. They've been practising square dancing, making baked beans, playing pioneer games, listening to several speakers and an author telling us of the “good old days”. They've also been organizing pizza days for the entire school as a fundraiser for their class trip. These past two weeks have been very exciting days. The costumes worn on Pioneer Day on Tuesday were “fantastique”. It gave students a real pioneer point of view. ON WITH THE SHOW by Kristy Caldwell On May 6 at 1 p.m., there was a full house at B.P.S. for the fourth annual Grandparents and Senior Citizens' Day. Invitations were sent out to the senior citizens of the village and as well to the grandparents of all the B.P.S. students. Each year the students provide an afternoon of singing, then reading or chatting with their guests, to acknowledge the seniors of Blyth and grandparents. This is also an opportunity to give something back to the community. This year the grade ones and twos both sang a few musical numbers for the visitors. The grade threes recited a few poems as well as sang a song. Then came the grade fours singing a musical tune. Each student from grade one to four then mingled with the crowd of over 100 people to chat or to read a story. Next was the senior choir with students from grade five, six, seven and eight under the direction of Karen Webster. The theme this year was “100 years of Love Songs”. Students sang a song or two from each decade, starting with “School Days” and “My Wild Irish Rose” from 1890 and finishing with “Canada Blues” from 1990. The finale was a rendition of “Happy Birthday” to Canada, Huron county and B.P.S. Afterwards the guests visited as the grade eights served lunch. All the students wish to thank their grandparents and their neighbours for attending the presentation. It was great to see such a huge and appreciative audience.
