Bd. gets grant
The executive committee of the
Huron County Board of Education
(HCBE) stated it doesn’t want to
see the development of more
boards of education in Ontario
because they believe it would fur
ther limit funding to existing school
boards.
Coinciding with this statement,
board trustees passed a motion at
their May 5 meeting supporting the
Corporation of the Township of
Muskoka Lakes in its efforts to
limit the creation of additional
school boards.
The whole issue of the possible
creation of new boards arose out of
the report of the 'French Language
Education Governance Advisory
Group' which stated it will develop
proposals for the establishment of
French-language school boards.♦♦♦
Trustees passed a motion sup
porting the construction of a squash
court at Goderich District Colle
giate Institute if a financially self-
sustaining adult retraining program
could be instigated at the school.
The motion also stated the board's
support was dependent on the
availability of $32,000 worth of
community funds to purchase
building materials for the project.
By granting support, project
organizers can feel free to go ahead

been in the works since the mid-
80's when trustees approved the
project in principle.**♦
The HCBE received grant
approval for the purchase of three
new 72-passenger school buses.
The new buses cost, altogether,
$156, 404.
In conjunction with the purchase,
the board will sell three used buses
for a total of $3,000.
The board received letters from
the Colbome Twp., Tuckersmith
Twp., and the Village of Bayfield
all supporting the board's opposi
tion to mandated junior kinder
garten.
