HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1992-05-06, Page 25GEORGE DAVIDSON George Davidson of Brussels passed away on Sunday, April 26, 1992 at Wingham and District Hos­ pital. He was 81. He was the beloved husband of the former Mary Rowland. He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Jack and Connie of Port Elgin, Doug and Linda of Brussels, Joyce and Ralph Triebner of Lind­ say and Ann and Robert Laurie of Millbank. Mr. Davidson was the dear brother of Agnes Glassier of New Liskeard, Jean Robinson of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., Gladys Lott of Ottawa and R.S. Scott Davidson of Port Elgin. Eight grandchildren and four great-grand­ children are left to moum his pass­ ing as well. His daughter, Joan, two brothers and one sister prede­ ceased him. Friends were received at the Betts Funeral Home, Brussels on Tuesday, April 28, from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Oddfellows Lodge #149 Western Star Brussels con­ ducted a memorial service at 9 that evening. Funeral services were held there at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Carolyn McAvoy officiated. Carrying Mr. Davidson to his final resting place at Brussels Cemetery were Harvey Kitchen, Hank Coleman, Charlie Fischer, Bruce McCall, Shaun Davidson and Michael Triebner. Carrying floral tributes were Jason, Blair and Becky Davidson, Joanne Neeb and Rosemary Triebn­ er. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to Melville Presbyterian Church, Brussels. REV. ALPHONSE DENTINGER Rev. Francis Alphonse Dentinger, CR, died Wednesday, April 29, 1992 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Guelph, after a lengthy illness. He was in his 80th year. Father Dentinger was born in Walkerton where he attended Sacred Heart elementary and Sacred Heart continuation schools. He completed his secondary educa­ tion at North Bay College and then entered St. Jerome's College in Kitchener. After graduation, he took philosophy and theology at St. Peter's Seminary, London, Ont. Father Dentinger professed his first vows in the Congregation of the Resurrection on August 15, 1936 and his final vows on August 15, 1939. He was ordained to the priesthood in London, May 30, 1942. He taught at Scholard Hall, North Bay and St. Jerome's College, Kitchener. He was principal of St. John's College, Brantford and also St. Jerome's high school, Kitchener. In 1965 Father Dentinger became past of St. Mary's Church, Kitchen­ er, where he remained until 1970 when he was stationed as pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, Formosa. In 1982 he was named pastor of St. Augustine's, Auburn where he remained until he retired in late 1992. He was the fourth child of the late Joseph and Anne (nee Batte) Dentinger. Father Dentinger was predeceased by brothers, William and Clarence and sister, Anna. Sur­ viving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mass of the Resurrection took place Saturday, May 2 and was presided over by Very Rev. Suther­ land MacDonald, C.r. Interment in the Congregation's Community plot in Mount Hope Cemetery, Kitchen­ er. EVA PAYNE Eva Payne of Wroxeter passed away suddenly on Friday, May 1, 1992 at her residence. She was in her 83rd year. Mrs. Payne was the beloved wife of the late Cecil Payne, who prede­ ceased her in 1972. She was the loving mother of Scott and Ola Payne of RR2, Gadshill and Harvey and Marjory Payne of Wroxeter. She was the beloved grandmoth­ er of 12 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 4 from Betts Funeral Home, Brussels with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Interment is at Brussels Ceme­ tery. In remembrance donations may be made to the Diabetic Asso­ ciation. PHILIP DE VRIES A tragic accident claimed the life of 15-year-old Philip James De Vries of RR1, Atwood, on Friday, April 24, 1992. A former Aubum-area resident, the youth was killed when the bike on which he was riding was struck by a car near the laneway of his family's home. Born in Goderich on Sept. 10, 1976, Philip was the son of Andy and Lucy (Ruiter) De Vries. An endearing well-liked youth, he was a Grade 9 student at Listowel Dis­ trict Secondary School and a mem­ ber of Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Listowel. Besides his parents Philip's loss will be mourned by his brothers, David, Matthew, and Stephen, all at home. He will be lovingly remem­ bered by his grandmothers Alice Ruiter and Beredina De Vries , both of Guelph. Philip is survived as well be his many aunts, uncles and cousins. His grandfathers John Ruiter and Roelof De Vries prede­ ceased him. Visitation was at Robert Trench Funeral Home in Listowel. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 27 at Bethel Chris­ tian Reformed Church. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Listowel. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Listowel Christian School would be deeply appreciat­ ed. Couple weds in Windsor ROUTLIFFE-DUFOUR During a double-ring ceremony, Brenda Lynn Dufour and Ryan Todd Routliffe exchanged marriage vows on Tuesday, April 21, 1992 at the Paradise Wedding Chapel, Riverside Drive, Windsor. HCBE briefs Bd. gets grant The executive committee of the Huron County Board of Education (HCBE) stated it doesn’t want to see the development of more boards of education in Ontario because they believe it would fur­ ther limit funding to existing school boards. Coinciding with this statement, board trustees passed a motion at their May 5 meeting supporting the Corporation of the Township of Muskoka Lakes in its efforts to limit the creation of additional school boards. The whole issue of the possible creation of new boards arose out of the report of the 'French Language Education Governance Advisory Group' which stated it will develop proposals for the establishment of French-language school boards.♦♦♦ Trustees passed a motion sup­ porting the construction of a squash court at Goderich District Colle­ giate Institute if a financially self- sustaining adult retraining program could be instigated at the school. The motion also stated the board's support was dependent on the availability of $32,000 worth of community funds to purchase building materials for the project.
