Tigers open season with shut-out win The Brussels Tigers opened their 1992 Huron County Fastball League schedule with a 7-0 mercy win over the defending champions from Clinton, Sunday afternoon. Doug Shaw's two out triple in the second inning opened the gates for a six run outburst. Todd Eurig went the distance for the win with a two hit, eight strike out effort. The Tigers travel to Bayfield Thursday to play the Thunder and are tentatively scheduled (Mother's THE EDITOR, On behalf of the Cruickshank family we would like to thank Mr. Roulston for his kind words of the late “Doc” Cruickshank. Grandpa did indeed have a dream! Through hard work and dedication to the community this dream developed. I know that he would have been disappointed that the television part of CKNX is done, but this would have been a challenge to Grandpa to make the radio station bigger and better for the listening area. As long as CKNX is still stand ing his dream will never die! Granddaughter Julie McCall, Brussels. THE EDITOR, As Vice President and General Manager of CKNX Broadcasting, I would like to take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks for the many thoughtful letter and phone calls received over the last few days. The concerns and comments expressed by you, our viewers and listeners, are much appreciated. There are many questions being asked regarding the restructuring of CKNX TV 8 and while there is not the space to answer all of those questions, here and now, I will take just a moment of your time. CKNX Television will continue to be an active participant in the daily lives of the residents of mid- westem Ontario. You will continue to receive CKNX TV on Channel Eight. While there will be new faces delivering your news, the daily information important to this region will continue to be gathered by the CKNX News, Sports and Farm Departments. This regional coverage will be blended with National and International news and presented in a professional and thorough manner. Specific weather forecasts will also be prepared for TV 8 viewers. There are many deserving orga nizations and charitable groups in this area, which have been support ed by CKNX TV and Radio over the years. This support, from our broadcast company, will be on going. While we may do things dif ferently, CKNX is still very much committed to helping worthwhile causes. Providing a regional television service and two strong radio sta tions, for the counties of Grey, Bruce, Huron, Perth and North Wellington, is what we see as our mandate for the future. The roots of CKNX Broadcasting are deeply planted in mid-western Ontario. It is our plan to be here for many years to come. Thank you for caring. This is the Tigers' second season in the Huron County League, a 13 team loop with clubs in Exeter, Clinton, Bayfield, Walton and Francistown; two teams from Blyth and Zurich, and three teams from Seaforth. Last season Brussels finished a solid second but were eliminated in opening round playoffs. Home games are every Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. THE EDITOR, The “Pioneer Spirit” is alive and well in the village of Clifford of 750 residents, just 60 miles north of Kitchener. When the M.T.O. refused fund ing for a much needed set of traffic lights on busy Highway No. 9, the people of the community and area rallied together to raise the funds to purchase a second hand set of traf fic lights and their installation. Within just 10 months of forming a committee to raise the funds it is with deep pride that we announce that on May 16, the traffic lights will be officially turned on. An all day celebration which is also a 125th Canada Event will include several exciting happen ings. To name a few: Breakfast, family 3 pitch baseball tournament, horseshoe tourney for men and women, unveiling of the traffic lights at 11:30 a.m., bathtub races, a parade at 7:30 p.m. (Theme is Pioneer Spirit) and a FREE family dance and of course fireworks. You won't want to miss a minute of this exciting day. On May 16, all roads will lead to Clifford - the community that would not accept the answer “NO”. We said we could and we did. With the support of local service clubs, organizations, our Local Fire Department, donations from near and far, and the help of the media - we saw our dreams come true. To save a life, to make it safe for anyone to cross the busy highway was always our constant source of inspiration. If you truly believe in something - work for it and it can become a reality.
