The special music was enjoyed by all. Susan Howson conducted the worship service, the theme being “Journeying in Faith”. Barbara Richmond gave the chil dren's story based on the miracle of the bulb; how something so plain when planted in the fall can become a beautiful flower in the spring with the help of God and Mother Nature. Barbara compared CRC holds communion Sun. On April 26, Communion Sun day, members and guests at Blyth Christian Reformed Church were greeted by elders Henry Exel and Merv Datema. Ushers were Ray Verburg and Stephen Kolkman. Guest pastor was Rev. Peter VanKatwyk of Kitchener. The morning service began with a hymn, call to worship, and read ing of the Law. Sympathy was extended to the VanderVeen family with the passing of mother, and grandmother, Mrs. Sylvia Arends. The congregation was also sad dened by the tragic accident that took the life of 15-year-old Phillip DeVries, son of Andy and Lucy. The DeVries' had been members of Blyth CRC until three years ago this to the miracle of the cross and Christ coming to life after death on the cross. Following the story, Anita Bromley was in charge of Junior Congregation; Debbie Ritchie was nursery supervisor. Melanie Bearss read the scripture. An impressive candle lighting service, honouring Blyth U.C.W. presidents who have held office since 1962, was performed by past presidents or representatives. These were Myrtle Vodden, Cathy Smith, former friend and music pupil, rep resenting Winona McDougall; Marjorie East, representing her mother Grace Phillips; Pauline Webster, representing her grand mother Evalina Webster; Olwen Richmond, representing her mother Jean Griffiths; Joan Crawford, rep resenting her mother-in-law Mamie Crawford; Mary Wightman assisted by her daughter Joan Crawford; Evelyn Smith, represented by her friend Lenora Davidson; and Susan Howson, the current president. Flowers were placed on a cross in memory of the four U.C.W. presi dents who have passed away. Bon nie Shannon, first vice-president of the Blyth U.C.W., placed flowers at when they relocated near Listowel. We will keep these families in our prayers. The scripture chosen for the morning message of “Hope and Faith” came from Psalm 50 with the focal text John 5: 2-9. Rev. VanKatwyk used the illustration of the lame man lying near the “pool of hope” waiting for healing. He said the human spirit relentlessly seeks the element of Hope in Life. As individuals we search for hope in different ways. When we meet people we only see what goes on on the surface. We often wonder what is really happening within. Are there troubled waters? Is there hope and faith? Faith tells us that God works within people to give the candlelit table. Lavonne Ballagh delivered an inspiring message about women's struggle for their place in society since the time of Eve. She told of how Paul felt a woman's place was in the home, subservient to man, but also how Paul chose many women to work with him in the church. Jesus accepted women regardless of their flaws - he never put women down but said “Let any one without sin cast the first stone.” Lavonne stressed that as U.C.W. members today we must strive to make our meetings enticing and be prepared to share our faith with sin cerity as ministers, learners, and servers. God has a plan for each of us and we need to experience the valleys to appreciate the beauty of the mountain tops. The U.C.W. will be as strong as we make it, modem women struggling with today's . trials need the church and we must pray for leadership as we enter the ’90s. Rev. Ramirez greeted everyone on behalf of the local congregation, Verna Burgin brought greetings from the Huron Perth U.C.W. Greetings by letter were read by hope even in despair! The invalid in the scripture illus tration waited in hope for 38 years and was finally touched with faith and New Life when Jesus said “Get up, pick up your mat and walk”. Rev. VanKatwyk challenged each of us to “Take up our mat and walk, to rise in faith and share in the resurrection life, to live the life of caring, hope, faith and love. We were then invited to the Commu nion Table of the Lord to Walk in Newness of Life. The evening service was led by elder, Mr. Martin Wilts. The title of the sermon was “Gone Fishing”, with scripture taken from John 21: 1-14. Susan Howson from Edythc Walk er (West Huron U.C.W.), Cecil and Sharon Whittich, Beryl Ortelli, and Janis Vodden. Guest pastor at Missionary church MELVILLE Rev. Keith Elliott of Kitchener was the guest speaker at Auburn Missionary Church on Sunday, April 26. Communicating the gospel cross culturally is not always easy. Almost all people are in some way religious but Christ often runs counter to what we think. When we read the Bible we meet Christ face to face. Before we believe we must hear the Word and we must hear in CINDY AND JOHN WHALEN Couple resides in Campbellford Mr. and Mrs. John Whalen were united in marriage on March 28, 1992. The vows were exchanged at the United Church in Campbell ford, Ontario. The bride is the former Cindy McKeivie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Machan of Brussels. The groom is the son of George Whalen and the late Barb Whalen. John and Cindy are now residing in Campbellford. order to be saved. Missions doesn't always happen overseas. What is missions about? Obeying the Lord and telling others about Jesus. The heartbeat of Mis sions is the local church. Pastor and Mrs. Came sang a very appropriate duet, ‘Lord Send Me There’. Rev. and Mrs. Keith Elliott and family are returning to Ecuador in July. May God bless this young family as they do service for the King of Kings. On Sunday, May 3 the New Visions musical group from Michi gan will be ministering at Auburn Missionary Church in the morning service. Young people! Don't miss this. Mennonite news Rod Stienman was worship lead er and Linda Garland gave the mes sage at Brussels Mennonite Fellowship on Sunday, April 26. She spoke on the Trinity, or “Three in One”. Christa and Christine Knorr had a children's story on the same theme, relating the Trinity to an apple. The peeling, the flesh and the core, all being part of the apple, each have individual importance, just as the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit play a part in our relationship with God. The Venture Club will have a bowling outing this coming Satur day in place of the regular Thurs day meeting. PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BRUSSELS Rev.
