Il Blyth students learn about computers THE GREAT PUMPKIN CAPER" will be handing our free pumpkin seeds for those interested in growing the GREAT PUMPKIN for the THE ONE WEEK COMPUTER LESSON by Margy Stewart What does the term C.D. ROM mean to you? Well to Blyth Public School students it means not using the heavy encyclopedias for a week. A C.D. Rom is a Compact Disc Read Only Memory computer. What a mouthful! For the past week students from grade kinder garten to grade 8 have been learn ing about the C.D. ROM. The grade sevens have been using the computer for a history assignment. Why look through a book when you get colourful pictures, sound and a voice that will tell you step by step instructions on how to use the programs. Jill Walden, just one of the grade seven students who has had the opportunity to use the com puter says, that the computer is easy to use, fun and educational. She prefers to use the C.D. ROM over an encyclopedia. It gives the same amount of information but it doesn't stop there. The big surprise of it all is that our school has raised enough money to buy a C.D. ROM and it will be kept in the library next year. THE GRADE EIGHT’S QUEST FOR SUCCESS by Julie McNichol and Kathy Fraser Bump! Set! Spike! It's another point for Blyth and the fans go wild! It was Saturday, April 11 and all the grade eight students of B.P.S. were as busy as bees. We were sell ing, fetching, going and doing things so that visiting grade six teams from Hullett, Holmesville, Colbome, St. Joseph's and B.P.S. would have a great day. Blyth People Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Snell visited with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Johnson and Kurt of London, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Timpany and Deneen of Aylmer on Palm weekend. Blyth Legion darts The weekly Friday night dart game was held at the Blyth Legion with Mae Ritchie and Pete Cook placing first. June Bolger and Bill Nethery came in second place while high lady was Barb and high man was Kevin Ritchie. Blyth lost heir There were six tables in play at the Blyth lost heir tournament held April 15. Winners were: high lady, Watson Reid (playing as a lady); high man, Alvin Snell; low lady, Feme Howatt; low man, Edgar Howatt and special, Effie McCall. The grade eight students put on the junior volleyball tournament as a part of their Quest program in guidance. Some activities that were going on were: scheduled games, a serving contest that was held at lunch, selling of hot dogs, drinks, snacks and juice. Even though there was plenty of work involved, everyone had a great day. The boys and girls from grade six at B.P.S. had a very good day when the results of the tournament were tallied. Blyth placed first again this year. Congratulations. We would like to thank the two referees that helped out so much throughout the whole day. i— LAWN FERTILIZER — •20-5-5 Slo Release N. •10-6-4 •10-6-4+Killex Optimist Halloween Pumpkin Growing Contest GREAT PRIZES AWARDED FOR • Largest Pumpkin • Most Original Carving You must pre-register to qualify - Details to follow.
