to Centre in the Square
A $10 million Canadian national

Lloyd Weber's The Phantom of the
Opera will be staged in Kitchener's
The Centre in the Square this
November.
Starting Nov. 4, the haunting
musical will be performed 31 times
ending Nov. 29.
The touring production of this
famous play was staged by the
same director (Harold Prince) and
production designer (Maria Bjom-
son) who were responsible for the
acclaimed Toronto production of
Phantom of the Opera. This pro
duction is in its third record-break
ing year at Toronto's Pantages
Theatre and will continue there on
an indefinite basis, stated a press
release.
Phantom of the Opera is based
on the classic novel by Gaston Ler-
oux and tells the story of a hideous
ly deformed Phantom who lurks
beneath the stage of the Paris Opera
House, exercising a reign of terror
over all its occupants. He falls
fatally in love with a young sopra
no, Christine Daae, and devotes
himself to creating a new start for
the Opera and nurturing her
extraordinary talents.
In the touring production coming
to Kitchener, Jeff Hyslop stars as
the phantom, Patti Cohenour as
Christine and David Rogers as the
romantic lead, Raoul, Vicomte de
Chagny.
