THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, APRIL 15,1992. bituaries WILLIAM (BILL) BEACOM William David (Bill) Beacom of Brussels passed away in Victoria Hospital, London, on April 8, 1992. He was 70. Mourning his passing most deeply are his wife, the former Phyllis M. Hope, his daughter and her husband Hope and Ronald Ken- nell of Whitby and two grandchil­ dren Maeghan and John. Bill was the youngest son of Dr. and Mrs. George Beacom of Lis- towel, who predeceased him. Sur­ viving him are his brothers John W. Beacom of Toronto, E.L. (Roy) Beacom of Ottawa and his sister Kathleen (Mrs. Elgin) Fritz of St. Catherines. Bill was born in Mount Forest and later attended school in Listow- el. He became an employee of the Imperial Bank of Canada in 1939. In May of 1942 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, where he trained as a navigator. While completing 30 missions overseas, he received a commendation from the RAF for outstanding navigation performance. After his discharge in 1945, Bill rejoined the bank, which later became the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. Throughout his banking career he worked in Hearst, Cottam, Listowel, Fergus and Schomberg. He opened a new branch in Nobleton as manager and advanced to Beaverton, Sault Ste. Marie and finally in 1972, he moved to Brussels. It was during his years in Listow­ el that he met and married his wife a registered nurse. Following his retirement in 1984, Bill did relief management for CIBC and until March of this year acted as a panel member for the Farm Debt Review Board of Ontario. In his younger years, he enjoyed working with the Boy Scouts. He was an avid curler, fisherman and hunter and was a registered instruc­ tor in Ontario's Hunter Safety Pro­ gram. He worked as a volunteer Credit Councillor in several com­ munities. He joined the Lions Club while living in Schomberg and served as President of the Brussels and Beaverton clubs and charter Presi­ dent in Nobleton. Bill initiated the Elimination Draw, one of the prime fundraisers of the Brussels Club. Bill was an active member of the United Church of Canada. In Brus­ sels he served as Chairman and member of the Board of Stewards, the Manse Committee and church Treasurer. Above all, he was a devoted hus­ band, father, and grandfather, who will be sadly missed. Funeral services were held at the Betts Funeral Home on April 11. Rev. Cam McMillan officiated. Honourary pallbearers were: George Nichol, Colin Pratt, Mal­ colm Jacobs, Max Oldfield, Bill Stephenson, Ralph Pearson, John Exel, Bob Beacom and John Bea­ com. Spring interment will be conduct­ ed in Brussels Cemetery. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation will be greatly accepted as expressions of sympa­ thy. RELIEF IS AT HAND! He was in his 52nd year. Mr. McNaughton was the beloved brother of Mary and Stan­ ley Brown of Monkton and Annie James of Brussels. He was prede­ ceased by his parents Kinley and Adalaide McNaughton and his brother-in-law Glen James. Jim will be missed by several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 12 from Betts visitation Centre, Gorrie with Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiating. Spring interment will be held at Wroxeter Cemetery. ORVILLE HAIG GILLIS Orville Haig Gillis of Brussels passed away suddenly on Friday, April 10, 1992 at Braemar Village Retirement Home, Wingham. He was 74. Mr. Gillis is the loving brother of Harold, Morris and Emma. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. Rev. Cam McMillan officiated at the private family funeral service in Betts Funeral Home, Brussels Chapel at 7 p.m. on Sunday, April 12. Blyth Optimist's Nintendo Challenge Mario! Mario! Mario!
