Twenty ladies answered the roll call with an Easter verse. Mrs. Mabel Wheeler opened the meeting and thanked Mrs. Johnston for the use of her home. Mrs. Ross Anderson assisted by Miss Annie Cook conducted the worship service on the theme “Joy”. Hymns “Rejoice the Lord is King”, and “Jesus Christ is Risen Today” were sung. Lilies decorate Knox United Easter lilies decorated the sanctu ary of Knox United Church, Bel grave, on Palm Sunday, April 12. Inspiring sacred music with Mrs. George Procter, organist, wel comed members to the service. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Shaw greeted each person on arrival. Following the Call to Worship and the singing of an Easter hymn, Rev. Peter Tucker conducted the reception by transfer of members, Mrs. Karen Moffat and Brian Kellington. Session member Joyce Vincent assisted. The choir anthem with piano accompaniment was “Break the Bread”. Belgrave euchre Fourteen tables were in play at the weekly euchre which was held in the W.I. Hall, Belgrave Wednes day, April 8. Winners were: high lady, Mrs. Lloyd Appleby; second high lady, Mrs. Bill Willis; low lady, Mrs. Agnes Gaunt; lone hands, lady, Mrs. Jean Pattison; skunk, lady, Mrs. Ruby Hanna; high man, Har vey Edgar; second high, man, George Michie; low man, Lloyd Appleby; lone hands, man, Dennis Leddy and skunk, man, Stuart Chamney. Visiting people Alicia Makas of London spent a few days with her grandmother, Mrs. Mabel Wheeler. On Sunday, she returned home with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Makas. Scripture passages were read by junior members, Jennifer Black, Jeremy Campbell and Jason McBumey. Mrs. Donna Kellington was con firmed by the minister and wel comed by Mrs. Vincent. The congregation stood to affirm its support. Rev. Tucker stated today is Palm or Passion Sunday. Christians fail to celebrate the “Story of the Cross” but rejoice in the Resurrec tion. We forget the agony, suffering and pain as we move from Palm Sunday to the Easter morn. God seeks us out and removes the barri er of sin through the atoning death of Christ His Son. Shoot party Eleven tables were in play at the shoot party on Friday, April 10 in the Belgrave Community Complex, sponsored by the Seniors' Group. East Waivanosh P.S. news Students paint eggs for Easter Kindergarten The Kindergarten class is learn ing about Easter. They have read about how Jesus died and rose again. This is why we celebrate Easter. Some of the things they are doing in class are making books, baskets, and large bunnies to cele brate Easter. They are also decorat ing styrofoam eggs. Grade One Mrs. Brydges' grade one class has begun Easter activities. They have also really enjoyed working with Mrs. Hessels' grade two class on the Amiga computers. They are very proud to report that they read 455 books for their Pot of Gold reading exercise. Wow! Congratu lations grade one. Grade Two Mrs. Dodds' grade two class is enjoying doing egg activities with the other grade two class. They especially like doing the crafts, mathematical and writing activities. Last week we reported that Amanda Palmer was moving. We were incorrect. It is Mandy Gibbard who is moving. Travis Campbell is in the hospital because he fractured his head. Get better soon Travis. Grade two really miss you. Mrs. Hessel's grade two class is learning about the parts of an egg. They are doing activities with the other grade two class. Some of the activities include painting eggs, decorating eggs with tissue paper, guessing what is in the pretend egg, writing egg stories, egg memory work, writing bumper stickers to try and get people to eat eggs, and many other fun egg activities. The grade twos found out that if you put an egg in water, it doesn't float, but if you add salt to the water, it will. The class is making a bird in an egg. Kristyn Gerth really likes it. They are having a lot of fun. Grade Three Miss Mather's grade three class is learning about division in Math class. They are “Math Whizzes” when doing the “Around the World” multiplication facts. Each day, they read a book about snakes and frogs. In Physical Education class, they are playing games with the parachute. It is a lot of fun. The “Special Person for the Week is Jodi Snowden. It is interesting hearing all about her. Grade Four Mr. Fisher's grade four class pre sented a very amusing and informa tive French assembly on Monday, April 6. The entire school really enjoyed themselves. Most of the students like the song “Alouctte” involving volunteer school mem bers and teachers the best. Thanks for such great assembly grade four. M iss Hodgins, their student teacher, has sent the class two post cards about the Sleeping Giant. They like hearing from her now that she's back at school. Grade Five Mr. Kerr's grade five class had a French test on Wednesday, April 8, along with also having a pioneer guessing game. It was fun. On Tuesday, April 7, they had a math quiz on the multiples of six. As part of their pioneer study, they are going to be making looms. They hope Mr. Kerr gets well soon, as he's had little or no voice all week. Grade Five/Six The class has been working very hard on the staging and songs with in the class musical. Everyone knows where to stand during each scene and exactly how each of the songs go. The grade three buddies will be helping sing the first and last number (the reprise) of the musical. This week, Ms. Thorpe- Hearn taught the grade three class the song they will sing, while Miss Mathers gave the five/six class a special lesson on cursive writing. Three groups have presented their Pioneer Partner Projects. Easter Activities are due on Thursday, April 16. Some are already finished and ready for dis play. The class is really looking for ward to the field trip next week to the Black Creek Pioneer Village and McMichael Canadian Art Gallery. LUCKNOW Grade Seven Mrs. Gross's grade seven class is getting excited about their trip to the Port Albert fisheries. They wrote a language test on Friday, April 10. The grade sevens have a science test on Tuesday, April 14. They have been auditioning for vocal and speaking parts for their operetta all this week. The grade sevens really like the good weather because they can play baseball at recess. Grade Eight Mr. Bartlett's grade eight class is having a science test April 14 and a Geography and History test on April 22. The graduation photos arc being taken on Wednesday, April 15. Unfortunately, the grade seven and eight field trip was incorrectly printed in last week's newspaper edition. The grade sevens and eights are going to Port Albert to learn about Aquatic Biology on Tuesday, April 16, and not on April 4 as suggested. Sport News On Wednesday, April 8, the teachers played a game of basket ball against the school's top play ers. The teachers won 27 to 5. These teachers are in “mighty fine” shape. The Intramural Basketball League has finished for the year with the Raiders team in first place. Congratulations to those members of the Raiders team. A special thanks is extended to all the teach ers who helped supervise the games at lunch hour during their spare time. We couldn't have done it without you.
