Brussels Livestock report Cattle trading higher Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending April 10 were: fin ished cattle, 784; cows, 326; veal calves, 231; lambs and goats, 637; stockers, 1475; pigs, 175. The trade this week had cattle trading at $2 to $3 higher. There were 512 steers on offer selling from $84.25 to $95 to the high of $102.25. Four steers con signed by William Bennett & Sons Ltd., Gorrie averaging 1348 lbs. sold for an average of $96.30 to the high of $97.85. Twenty-seven steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira averaging 1406 lbs. sold for an average of $94.50 to the high of $102.25 purchased by Norwich Packers. Sixteen steers consigned by Ken Eadie, Holyrood averaging 14398 lbs. sold for an average of $92.45 to the high of $95. Forty steers con signed by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averaging 1326 lbs. sold for an average of $92.10 to the high of $94.50. Nineteen steers con signed by Cunningham Farms, Lucan averaging 1441 lbs. sold for an average of $91.45 to the high of $99.25. Twenty steers consigned by George Blake, Brussels, averaging 1299 lbs. sold for an average of $91.30 to the high of $92.75. Four steers consigned by Glen Allan, Holyrood averaging 1375 lbs. sold for an average of $91.15 to the high of $93.75. Fourteen steers con signed by Beetonia Farms Ltd., Beeton, averaging 1331 lbs. sold for an average of $91 to the high of $93. There were 256 heifers on offer selling from $75.25 to $93.30 to the high of $97. Trustees will also decide whether or not to ask the provincial govern ment for an extension to their bud get deadline. Two cows consigned by Jack Pentland, Goderich averaging 1185 lbs. sold for an average of $55.85 to the high of $57.25. There were 231 veal on offer selling from $68 to $88 to the high of $97.50. Five veal consigned by Bob Spince, St. Marys, averaging 614 lbs. sold for an average of $79.70 to the high of $97.50. Two veal consigned by Jim Hunter, Bel grave averaging 415 lbs. sold for an average of $89.25 to the high of $94.50. Three veal consigned by Ron Smart, Mt. Forest averaging 533 lbs. sold for an average of $83.45 to the high of $90.50. There were 175 pigs on offer with 75 paper pigs. Thirty to 40 lbs. to a high of 94 cents per lb.; 50 to 60 lbs. to a high of 80 cents per lb.; 60 to 70 lbs. to a high of 75 cents per lb.; and over 70 lbs. to a high of 68 cents per lb. In respect of Good Friday there will not be a sale next Friday, April 17. But since the HCBE only received their equalization factor from the government last week, they weren't able to work on the budget. Trustees feel since it is the gov ernment's fault they're being pressed for time, they should grant an extension. They met in Brussels before going to Spinrite Yams where they were given a tour. Stages of processing the yam from raw to the finished product made the members aware of the work involved before they can buy it. Forestry Freaks learn to prune rose BY MICHELLE FREIBURGER The Forestry Freaks' second meeting was held on April 1 at 4:30 p.m. at the Freiburger's home. Five new people joined the club. After opening the meeting the with 4H pledge, members talked about the different uses of trees, shrubs and flowers. They got into small groups, and gave the host some great landscaping ideas.
