The news from ondesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 WI hears readings The April meeting of the Londes­ boro W.I. was held at the Hall on Wednesday, April 8 at 12:30 p.m. It began with a lovely turkey ban­ quet dinner. Lucky cup and plate winners were Annie Vincent and Dora Shobbrook. The meeting opened with the Opening Ode and “O Canada” was sung. Lois Elliott gave the reading “Emphasis.” Helen Lawson gave the minutes of the March meeting. Roll call was answered with the payment of fees. Treasurer's report was given by Helen Lawson. Thank yous were received from Hattie Woods and Barb Forbes. The London area workshops will be held on June 10 at Centralia. It was noted that Huron County His­ torical Society, Huntington’s Soci­ ety Conference will be held at Thunder Bay on August 7, 8 and 9. It was moved to give a donation Huntington's Society. Helen Law- son's membership to the Historical Society will be paid. The quilt show will be May 8 and 9 at Northside United Church, Seaforth. Cost is $3.00. The May meeting will begin at 8 p.m. The Huron County and Ontario Dairy Princess are the scheduled guests. Walton, Seaforth and Auburn W.I. are invited to attend this spe­ cial meeting. Josephine MacGregor read a Group goes bowling The Life and Work Committee of the church went bowling on Sun­ day, April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Clinton Crown Lanes about 30 peo­ ple attended. Wirmers were: adults, high lady, Josephine MacGregor; low lady, Helen Lawson; high man, Brett Bowers; low man, Reg Lawson; most head pins, Milton Dale; oldest person bowling, Ted Fothergill; men's nearest birthday, Darryl Post­ ma; ladies' nearest birthday, Kittie MacGregor, 8 to 14 year old boys: high boy, Kevin Trewartha; low boy, Michael Lyons; high girl, Jen­ nifer Szusz; low girl, Debbie Hog­ gart; special, Blair Trewartha; eight and under: high girl, Elizabeth MacGregor; high boy, Steve Dougherty. Margaret Taylor gave a reading on “Gardening”. Dora Shobbrook read “There's Nothing Wrong With Me for The Shape I'm In”. Ella Flood read a poem, “Teaching a Calf to Drink”. Lois Elliott read a poem “What's In A Name”. The District Annual is May 25 at Dungannon United Church. There is a luncheon, cost being $6.00. The meeting begins at 9:45 a.m. Each member is asked to bring two or three items for the penny sale to be held at the May meeting. Helen Lawson read the minutes of the 1991 annual meeting. They were approved as read. Helen Law- son gave the annual financial report. Ramona Jamieson gave the auditor's report. Helen Lawson gave the secretary's report. Mar­ jorie Anderson gave the pro­ gramme co-ordinator's report. The nominating committee report was given by Margaret Taylor. People The sympathy of the community is extended for Charles and Sharon Snell and Robert and Nancy Snell on the sudden passing of their dad Jim. Friends will be glad to know Mrs. Helen Lee has returned home from Stratford General Hospital. The Seniors Dance will be held at Hullett Central School on Wednesday, April 15 at 8:30 p.m. Cost is $3.00. Anna (Hamilton) Hill, aunt of Helen Dale and Shirley Lyon passed away recently at Winch­ ester, Ontario. She was a former Londesboro girl. Mrs. Laura Lyon and Miss Edythe Beacom attended the funer­ al of their cousin Mr. Wm. Ushers were: Marie and Roy Krauter and Jane and John Hoggart. The flowers on the memorial stand were in honour of Lome and Addie Hunking's 50th wedding anniversary. The anthem, “The King is Riding By” was sung. The sermon topic was “Overcome Fear”. Five new members joined Lon­ desboro United Church. They are: Peter and Sherry Postma, Milton and Helen Dale and Murray Wheel­ er. It was Holy Communion Sunday. Thank you to all who gave to the food Drive on Saturday. This week's Bible Study will be held at the home of Ethel Ball on April 14 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Huronview Fellowship is on Thursday, April 16 at 1:15 p.m. The Junior Youth Group will meet at the church on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. for devotions. Please bring pledge money from the dance-a-thon at 8 p.m. There will be swimming in Vanastra from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. Bring $2.50 for admission to the pool. Rides can pick you up at the church between 9:45 to 10 p.m. The Good Friday service will be held in Knox United Church, Auburn at 11 a.m. The Board of Stewards would like to thank everyone for their help and participation in SongFest.
