Curling Club ends season with banquet and awards Undefeated The Blyth Public School Grade 6 co-ed volleyball team went undefeated at the second annual co-ed volleyall tournament sponsored by Blyth P.S. on Saturday. Blyth defeated St. Joseph Separate School 15-5 and 15-1; Holmesville Public School 15-9 and 15-5; Colborne Public 15-6 and 15-3 and Hullett Central in the championship round 15-4 and 15-12. Playoff superstars The Brussels Curling Club closed the curling season with a pot luck supper and social evening of cards, crokinole and dart games on Satur­ day evening. President Ernie Le wing ton, had a short meeting and gave the slate of officers for next year. They are: Past President, Ernie Lewington; President, Bill Shortreed; First- Vice, Mervyn Bauer, Second-Vice, Wayne Lowe; Secretary-Treasurer, Doc Stephenson; Bonspiel Com­ mittee, Open Bar Committee - Brian Warwick, Howard Hackwell; Draw Committee - Ruth Bauer, Madelene Steiss, Donna Bauer, Ice Committee - Steve Steiss; Prize Committee - Valerie Shortreed, Heidi McClure, Gloria Wilbee; Press Reporter, Velma Locking. The President of the junior curlers, Anne Uhler, then presented the prizes to the winners of the junior curling. They were: First Draw, first, 36 points, Chris Davies, Wayne Alexander, Heather Blake and Brett Clarkson; second, 17 points, Darryl Van ass, Dan Pearson, Jeff Lewing­ ton, Curtis Mutter and Ann Uhler; third, 16 points, Darrel Uhler, Barb Alexander, Darren Bauer and Brad Mulvey; fourth, 13 points, David Lewington, John Miners, Andy Overholt and Lisa Blake. Second Draw, first, 25 points, Barb Alexander, Chris Davies, Andy Overholt and Darryl Vanass; second, 21 points, Dan Pearson, Jeff Lewington, Lisa Blake and Darren Bauer; third, 17 points, John Miners, Heather Blake, Darrel Uhler and Brad Mulvey; fourth, 14 points, Ann Uhler, David Lewing­ ton, Brett Clarkson and Curtis Mut­ The Brussels minor Hockey Novice Rep team was renowned for its playoff power this season as it was the only team who managed to win three games out of six against the eventual All­ Ontario Champions, Howick. Members of the team were recognised at the Brussels Minor Hockey Banquet Sunday night. The team consisted of (back row, left to right) coach Steve Coulter, Brian Oldfield, Phil Affolter, Ian Thompson, Andy VanBeek, coach Murray Kellington, (middle row, left to right) Matthew McCall, Carla Hunt, Robert Kerr, Chris Coulter and (front row, left to right) Joel Kellington who was awarded the most sportsmanlike trophy, Chad Fischer, the most improved player and Matthew McLellan who won the most dedicated trophy. Jo-Ann McDonald presented the Walter Scott Memorial Trophy to the Overall winners of the Ladies Curling. They were Velma Lock­ ing, Valerie Shortreed, Marlene Richmond and Doris Fischer. Pauline Patterson presented the prizes to the winners of the mixed curling. First Draw winners were: first, 46.5 points, Orval Bauer, Joyce Alexander, Murray Bone and Fran Breckenridge; second, 44.5 points Mervyn Bauer, Velma Locking, Wayne Lowe and Mary Ann Bone; third, 42.5 points, Brad Speiran, Doug Sholdice and Madelene Steiss. Second Draw winners were: first, 50 points, Michael Alexander, Valerie Shortreed, Joyce Alexander and Mary Ann Bone; second, 47 points, George Zwep, Pauline Pat­ terson, Ernie Lewington and Dave Linton; third, 41 points, Stew Steiss, Brenda Linton, Brian War­ wick and Ralph Watson.
