The Citizen, 1992-04-08, Page 10Music Makin Moms Many enjoy 12th SongFest The 12th Annual SongFest was held at Londesboro United Church on Sunday evening, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. Master of Ceremonies was Rev. Paul Ross. The organist was Sara Lyons and pianist and music director was Gail Lear. The following people presented the evening programme: Londes­ boro United Church Senior Choir, Kerrie and Jennifer Szusz, George Turner. “High Power”, a Group of Five from the Kindcardine area, Leona McBride and Gladys Van ■Egmond and the “Music Makin Moms”. Lunch was served after this event. A special vote of thanks is extended to Mr. Elgin Penfound who has arranged this event each year. This is one of the most enjoy­ able events held at the Church each spring. Three members of the band the Music Makin' Moms, Lynda Kingwell, Louise Stout and Bonnie Hemstock, all of the Owen Sound area, were photographed while performing in Londesboro United Church's 12th Annual Songfest held Sunday night. Also performing at the event was the Londesboro United Church Senior Choir, Kerri and Jennifer Szusz, George Turner, Leona McBride and Gladys VanEgmond and a Kincardine band known as High Power. Bible Study on Tuesday, April 7 will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at the home of Bernice Anderson of Auburn. The manse committee will meet with the Presbytery Manse Com­ mittee on Wednesday, April 8 at 8 p.m. The Senior Youth Group meets on Thursday, April 9. Phone Paul for details. Next Sunday will be Holy Com­ munion and receiving of new mem­ bers. The scripture readings for April 12 are Isaiah 50: 4-9, Phillipians 2: 5-11 and Luke 22: 14-23 and 56. The Senior Youth Group is hold­ ing a food drive on Saturday, April 11 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the Lon­ desboro area. The Life and Work Committee is having a family bowling party, Sunday, April 12 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Clinton Lanes. Cost is $4 for two games. Choir members will practise at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 12 and 19. Good Friday service will be held at Knox United Church, Aubum at 11 a.m. Woman home from hospital Friends and neighbours of Mrs. Geraldine Dale will be glad to know she has returned home from Clinton Hospital after having surgery. Wingham hosts Commissioner forum Attendance was sparse but atten­ tive at the Commission on Planning and Development Reform in Ontar­ io's public forum in Wingham, Thursday April 2. Only about fifty people showed up to hear Commissioners John Sewell and George Penfold explain their draft goals and to clarify issues about the planning process. On June 12, 1991, Municipal Affairs Minister Dave Cooke announced the appointment of the Sewell's proposal is that the province should play the main role in planning formal policy on what is important in Ontario. The gov­ ernment's key role should be only to say what the policies are and then allow them to be debated in advance. The municipalities on the other hand should have developmental approval. Three Commissioners were appointed: John Sewell, Toby Vigod and George Penfold. The task of these three Commis­ sioners is to review the planning system, make recommendations, and then to make sure that action is taken on them. By working with six different groups of 20 people across Ontario, the three hope to form different planning situations accomadating the different regions of Ontario. As Sewell states there are presently two big players -the provincial and municipal. It is time someone clarified what each is doing towards planning.
