Blyth Bantams end with win BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Bantams completed their season on March 23 crushing the Brussels team in a home game to win the Group Championship. Blyth started quickly as the line of Michael Bromley, Tom Lyons and Ryan Chamney gave them a 2-0 lead in the first 42 seconds of this pivotal game. Michael Bromley and Tim Lyons assisted on Ryan Chamney's opening goal nine seconds into the contest and then Lyons and Chamney set up Bromley 33 seconds later for a 2-0 Blyth lead. Although Brussels clawed their way back into the game, Blyth added two more tallies before the first period ended for what would be an insurmountable 4-2 lead. Tim Lyons scored Blyth's third goal after a tic-tac-toe passing play with Peter Craig and Michael Bromley. Jerrod Button completed the first period scoring with Tim Cowan helping him score a short- handed marker. Two more goals late in the second period salted the victory away for Blyth. The line of Bromley, Lyons and Chamney continued their passing wizardry as Lyons and Chamney assisted on Bromley's power-play goal. Christopher Howson and Jerrod Button then assisted on Blyth's sixth goal as Brian McNichol scored what turned out to be Blyth's final goal of the season. Puckstopper Chris Lee covered up all loose pucks near the Blyth crease the rest of the way and the quartet of Peter Craig, Wilfred Datema, Jonathan Collins and Michael de Jong played rock-solid defence in the third as Blyth won 6- 2. This win gave Blyth three wins Durham wins WOAA Senior A crown The Durham Thundercats won the 1992 WOAA Senior ‘A’ Hockey Championship with an 8-3 win and four game sweep of the Tavistock Royals, Saturday night in Durham.
