HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 1992-03-18, Page 17MARGARET I. (CARDIFF) ELSTON Margaret I. Elston, R.R.l, Arva passed away at her home Saturday, March 14, 1992. She was in her 62nd year. She was the daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth Cardiff of Brussels and was a sister of Mur­ ray, and his wife Betty, Cardiff of R.R.l, Ethel and Jean Prescott of Moncton. She is survived by her husband Ed Elston as well as her children Paul, of Port Elgin; Gary and his wife Diane, Dublin; Nancy and her husband Bruce Young, Waterloo; David and his wife Joan, Ilderton; Jane and her husband Steven Walk­ er, Lucan; and John and his wife Donna, Naim. Also surviving are grandchildren Laura, Mary and Beth Elston; Amy, Jonathan, Michael and Katie Elston; Kelly, Christopher and Matthew Young; Andrew and Nicole Elston, Ben­ jamin and Jeffrey Walker; and Mark and Kristen and Amanda Elston. The funeral service was held Tuesday, March 17, 1992 at the Bethel Presbyterian Church, Con­ cession 11, London Township fol­ lowing visitation at the C. Haskett and Son Funeral Home, Lucan. Rev. F. Neill officiated. Interment was at Medway Cemetery, London Township. Donations to Bethel Presbyterian Church or the Diabetic Association are appreciated as tokens of appre­ ciation. CARL EDGAR EAST Mr. Carl East, of RR 4 Clinton, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 1992 at Clinton Public Hospital. He was in his 60th year. Bom in Hullet Township on Jan­ uary 4, 1932, he was a son of the late James Clarence East and the former Marguerite Ann Merriott. Mr. East was a produce vendor in Huron County and a member of the Wesley-Willis United Church. He was the loving companion of Kathleen Buchanan and the loving father of Vicki, Beverly and James. He was the dear brother of Kath­ leen Hcssclwood of Blyth, Lillian (Mrs. Bert Evans) of Clinton, Harold and Charles, both of RR 4 Clinton, and Jack of Brantford.He is survived as well by six grand­ children. He was predeceased by one son, George East. Friends were received at the 'Ball Chapel’ of the Beattie-Falconer Funeral Homes, Clinton.The funer­ al service was held Saturday, March 7, with Rev. Jack Twuddle of Wesley-Willis United Church officiating. Pallbearers were: Budd Bell, William Cook, Ernest Dale, Clarence East, Paul East and Tom Nott. Spring interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery. STERLING HOOD Sterling John Hood, of Atwood, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 1992. He was in his 70th year. Bom in Elma Township, he was the son of the late John Hood and the former Margaret Baillie. Mr. Hood served with the Cana­ dian Armed Forces from June 1941 to January 1946, and was a long­ time employee of Grey and Elma Townships. Left to mourn his passing is his wife, the former Della Helen Jack- lin. He was the dear father of Gre­ gory and wife Joanne of Goderich and Debra and Brian Cockwell of Listowel. He will be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Laura and Lisa Hood, Nigel and Jillian Cockwell. Mr. Hood was the dear brother of Jean Diehl and hus­ band Orville of Stratford; Harvey Leola of Brussels. He was the brother-in-law of Lloyd and Twila Jacklin of Molesworth, Marjory and Stan Bray of Seaforth, Archie and Doris Jacklin of Bluevale, Myrtle Jacklin of Clinton, Sharon Grubb of Neustadt, Glen and Mona Jacklin of Goderich, and Evelyn and Weldon Nichol of Listowel. Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 27 al the Pee­ bles Funeral Home in Atwood. Interment will be in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Ethel. As expressions of sympathy donations may be made to the Atwood United Church or the Canadian Cancer Society. MINNIE WHITE Minnie White, formerly of Wrox - etcr, passed away on Monday, March 9 at Queen Elizabeth Hospi­ tal, Toronto in her 99th year. She was the beloved wife of the late Clarence While who prede­ ceased her in 1973. Mrs. White was the loving mother of Lucelle While and Maxine and Graham McLeod, all of Toronto, Yvonne Cullen of Thornhill, Pauline LaPlante of New Westminster, B.C. and Pam and Ken Greer of Agincourt. She will be remembered by 14 grandchil­ dren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. Rev. Jeff Hawkins officiated al the funeral service, which was held at Betts Visitiation Centre, Gorrie at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 12. Spring interment will be held at Wroxeter Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations to a charily of one’s choice would be appreciated as expressions of sym­ pathy. 4H meets BY SANDY RIJKHOFF The meeting opened by Sherry Baan saying the 4H pledge. This meeting was held at Kathy Bridges house. Members worked on knitting projects like tunnels, scarves, bells, animals and puppets. Everyone is is advancing well with them. Members also learned about dif­ ferent kinds of wool, and discov­ ered which one was the most fire proof. They also decided where they were going to hold Achievement Night. George and Debbie Richardson said there are no words to express lhe heartfelt thanks and apprecia­ tion to the indivduals who have given of themselves during this dif­ ficult time. QUOTATION FOR SUPPLY OF PROPANE Propane suppliers are invited to submit quotation for the supply of propane to the new Home For The Aged in Morris Township (Huronview North). The new Home For The Aged will have a floor area of approximately 54,100 square feet. There are many pieces of equipment which require propane. Therefore, contact the Administrator for the list of equipment. The supply will be for a four year period starting the Fall of 1992 and the supply and installation of the propane tank is required. The lowest or any tender may not necessarily be taken. Inquiries are to be directed to the undersigned. Plans arc being made for a trip to West Flamborough to sec violets and to the Royal Botannical Gar­ dens in Hamilton on May 11. The group would like to fill the bus so all arc welcome. Cost is around $ 14.00 per person. Several members are to go to lhe District 8 annual meeting in Lions Head, April 1 1 and also to the OHA Convention in London, June 12 - 14. The Society decided a donation would be made to lhe Fall Fair to Public School students for Junior and Senior contributors In Memory of Marg. Tycrman to try to encour­ age Youth to participate in garden­ ing. New members are always needed as we look after the flower beds and planters around Brussels and Area.
