The tide changed after, however, and the Barons came up with a 6-5 victory over the Bulls, winning the Western Ontario Junior "C" title for the third consecutive year. S ports Same sad old story- Barons beat Bulls For the third straight season the Hanover Barons have beaten the Brussels Bulls to win the Western Junior C title. They knocked off the Bulls in five games winning game four Thursday night 4 - 3 and Fri day night 6-5. The turning point of the series may have come late in game four. The Bulls had scored two goals late in the third to tie the game at three. Then with less than three minutes to play the referee signalled Dustin Weir to the penalty box for elbow ing. The Baron's Joel Lahn scored the winner with about a minute- and-a-half left. Brussels pulled goalie Jeff Roy but could not score to force the game into overtime. Bruce Angel, Jeremy Franks and Trevor Heidman had the other Baron's goals. Greg McNevan with two and Jason McNichol had the Bulls' goals. “We had momentum and if it had not been for that penal ty I think we would have come back to win,” said Coach Scott Pet tigrew. The Barons wrapped up the championship on Friday night in Brussels with a 6-5 win. Brussels jumped out to a 3-0 lead in he first period but then took some bad penalties in the second allowing Hanover to tie the score at four. The 26-year-old, grandson of Edwin and Hattie Wood, R.R.l, Blyth, soared to a height of 5.65 meters (18 feet, 6.25 inches) to cap- and despite a goal by Todd Norman with less than two minutes remain ing in the game, Brussels could not even the score. Other Bulls' mark ers came from Corey McKee, Scott Vader, Sam Kulafofski and Steve Fritz. Coach Pettigrew said, “it came down to their powerplay executing better than ours. Whenever you give up four powerplay goals you are going to have trouble winning.” The Barons will now play the Belle River Canadians in the All Ontario Quarter-Finals. The Brussels Bulls will lose sev eral key players next year. Among those will be Rookie Sensation Todd Norman who will play Junior B somewhere. Defenceman Quade Lightbody is expected to be an OHL Draft Pick and Overagers Corey McKee and Jeff Roy will not be eligible to return. No loss will be greater than the man behind the bench. After two years Scott Petti grew has stepped down. Pettigrew led the Bulls to the finals both years.
