Brussels Coach Scott Pettigrew said, “We had our chances to score in the first period but we couldn't get a bounce. Our powerplay has been excellent coming into this series but we made some bad reads, especially on the 5-on-3's.” Game two will be in Brussels on Friday at 9 p.m. Game three is on Sunday in Brussels at 2 p.m. The Barons advanced by taking care of Mount Forest in four straight. The Bulls made their way to the final knocking off Grand Valley in five games. They increased the lead by one more when Nicholson and Brian Campbell drew assists on a Ron Strome goal. The Crusaders took a five goal lead when Strome and Boon set up J. C. Hewitt for a goal. They then made it 7-1, when Wheeler and Jeff McGavin drew assists on a goal by Fritz. The Kings added one more before the period ended to make the score 7-2 for Brussels after two periods.
