Premium cattle hold price, rest lower at Brussels sale Sales at Brussels Livestock for the week ending February 28 were: slaughter cattle, 1030; cows, 314; veal calves, 247; lambs and goats, 55; stockers, 795; pigs, 130. The trade at Brussels Livestock was steady on premium cattle with the rest of cattle selling $1 lower. There were 656 steers on offer selling from $78.25 to $87.25 to the high of $106. One steer con­ signed by Earl Geisel, Elmira weighing 1270 lbs. sold for $106, purchased by Norwich Packers. Twenty-seven steers consigned by Gerald Geisel, Elmira averaging 1486 lbs. sold for an average of $90.20 to the high of $100. Forty- nine steers consigned by W. B. Pletch Co. Ltd., Rockwood averag­ ing 1322 lbs. sold for an average of $86.90 to the high of $93. Twelve steers consigned by K & A Beef Farms, Wroxeter averaging 1347 lbs. sold for an average of $86.55 to the high of $93. Eighteen steers consigned by Murray Ohm, Monkton, averaging 1464 lbs. sold for an average of $84.15 to the high of $85.90. Thirteen steers consigned by Murray Forbes, Clinton averaging 1429 lbs. sold for an average of $83.75 to the high of $86.50. Forty steers consigned by Dale Taylor, Creemore averaging 1374 lbs. sold for an average of $83.65 to the high of $84. Twelve steers consigned by Glen Johnston, Bluevale averaging 1313 lbs. sold for an average of $82.85 to the high of $86.50. Conservation tillage meeting at Clinton March 18 BY BRIAN HALL FARM MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST FOR HURON COUNTY Clarence Swanton, a field crop weed researcher with the Universi­ ty of Guelph, will be the guest speaker at an afternoon workshop for producers practising conserva­ tion tillage on Wednesday, March 18 in the Clinton Town Hall. Producers must pre-register by calling the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food office in Clinton. The Huron Soil & Crop Improvement Association is spon­ soring the meeting which begins at 1 p.m. Mr. Swanton has done extensive research work on weed control under a conservation tillage system. Some of his research trials are being conducted at the farm of Don Lobb, Clinton. Eight veal con­ signed by Doug Ward, Monkton averaging 604 lbs. sold for an aver­ age of $86.70 to the high of $104.50. Ten veal consigned by Eldon Westman, St. Marys averag­ ing 624 lbs. sold for an average of $86.10 to the high of $97. There were 130 pigs on offer selling with 55 paper pigs.
