Belgrave Novices champs It was a fight to the finish as the Belgrave Novices faced off against Barbershop London team in the Zurich Tournament on Feb. 29. Tied at one goal each at the end of three periods the two teams went into overtime play. They began with five minutes then played for one minute with four players, one minute with three, one minute with two and one minute with one. Craig Marks scored the winning goal in a very exciting game that could have gone either way. Game two of the tournament was against another London team. Belgrave took the lead in the sec­ ond period when Craig Marks scored from a pass by Matthew Cameron. Five minutes later Justin Black passed to Craig who made the shot. Belgrave goalie Kyle Anderson got the shutout. On Sunday, the team played game three of the tournament against the Forest Phantoms. Craig Marks opened the scoring near the end of the first period. For­ est came back in the second to tie it, but Belgrave took the lead again just one minute later when Justin Campbell scored from Tim Robin­ son. Early in the third period Tim scored some insurance for the Bel­ grave team, but the Forest team got another goal with 5:10 remaining ending the game al 3-2 for Bel­ grave. Goalie Aaron Bakker came up with some key saves for the learn. The checking wasn't tight enough all evening, however, as Clifford scored a 5-2 win to even the series at one win each. Monday, Blyth scored a come- from-behind win to take the series lead again. Van Beers R.R. #1 Blyth 523-4431 Blyth Atoms take series lead Blyth Atoms scored a thrilling come-from-behind victory Monday night to take a 2-1 series lead against Clifford in their WOAA championship series. Jeff Cowan had scored goals in the first and second periods, both set up by Darryl Bromley but Blyth still trailed 4-2 with just 4:11 left in the game. Jeff Cowan scored from Michael Courtney to make the score close, then Mike Courtney scored from Jeff Cowan to tie the score. With a minute and six seconds left, Jeff Cowan scored from Michael Courtney to give Blyth the lead and they held on for the win. Blyth had taken the first game of the series by a 7-2 count early last week, but Clifford had surprised them with a 5-2 win in Blyth Thursday night. Blyth returns home Thursday at 7 p.m. with a chance to clinch the series. If they fail, they'll return to Clifford for the deciding game.
