The news from ondesboro Compiled by June Fothergill Phone 523-4360 Cheerio Club meets The February meeting of the Cheerio Club was held on Wednes­ day, Feb. 19 at 2 p.m. at the home of Edythe Beacom. Roll call was answered by eight members. There was one visitor. The minutes of the January meeting were read. Draw money and collection were taken up. The draw prize was donated by Margaret Good and was won by Edythe Beacom. Edythe read a poem about singing wires in winter and another one. For all those bom before 1945. Beth read ‘Abiding Love’ and ‘Twelve Good Rules’. Edythe read ‘Ordinary Things’. Cards were played after which lunch was served by Edythe and Beth. Church bd. meets, Mar. 4 Greg McClinchey of Londesboro received his Queen's Venturer Award Wednesday as part of the celebration of Scout-Guide Week at the Blyth and district Community Centre. Tom Bailey, Huron District Commissioner presented the award, the top award in Scouting. UCW to conduct Mar. 15 service The February meeting of Londes­ boro U.C.W. was held at the Church on Monday, Feb. 17 at 8 p.m. President Helen Lawson opened the meeting with the Purpose. The worship service was con­ ducted by Betty Millar and Reta Kelland. Hymn 77 ‘Jesus Lover of My Soul’ was sung accompanied by Marsha Szusz at the piano. The scripture taken from Daniel 6 was read by Reta. A film about ‘Daniel in the Lions Den' was presented. Hymn 116 ‘How Sweet The Name of Jesus Sounds’ was sung. Betty Millar closed with prayer. The minutes of the January meet­ ing were read and approved. Thank you's were read from Mrs. Wood, Laura Saundercock, Marion Hunk- ing and the Potter family. Dorothy Tamblyn gave the treasurer's report. Collection and birthday pennies were taken up. The March meeting will be trie World Day of Prayer service on March 6 at 1:30 p.m. The dessert meeting is at 2 p.m. It was moved by Dorothy Tam­ blyn seconded by Reta Kelland to invite Bums U.C.W. to this meet­ ing. It was noted that the ladies will conduct the Church Service on Sunday, March 15. The Benedic­ tion was repeated in unison fol­ lowed by grace. Lunch was served by Marsha, Brenda and Ruth. Greeters at Londesboro United Church on Sunday, Feb. 23 were Clare and Ruth Vincent. Ushers were Elvis Vincent, Paul Jewitt and Rick Archambault. The sermon topic was “The Building of Christ's Church.” Guest speaker was Rev. Wib Dawson. He is the Regional Secretary for the Canadian Bible Society. There is no Bible Study this week. The Senior Youth Group will Shuffleboard winners Shuffleboard was held at Hullett Public School on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. Results were men's high, Lome Hunking and Lloyd Dale; ladies' high, Geraldine Dale. Twelve people were present. meet Friday, Feb. 28 for bowling at Clinton Lanes at 8 p.m. Participants are asked to bring money for pizza. The readings for next week are from Exodus 34, 29-35, II Corinthians 3-12, 4-2 and Luke 9, 28-35.
