OMAF offers farm welding course Bromley scores hat-trick to lead Blyth Bantams BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Bantams ended a month of virtual inactivity on Sun­ day, Feb. 16 as they opened a best three out of five series in Zurich. Blyth dominated early as they built a 3-0 lead before the game was six minutes old, on their way to crush­ ing the Beantowners 8-3. An intro­ ductory and advanced welding course is being offered to farmers. The advanced course begins Monday, Feb. 24 at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for three Mondays, and is being held at Centralia College. The course will provide both class­ room and hands-on instruction of advanced welding techniques including selection of welding rods and equipment, clamping, tacking and aligning parts to prevent dis­ tortion, iron welding and brazing, making jigs and plasma cutting. In addition participants will have an opportunity to work on a project. The introductory course will help producers understand gas and mig welding, safety, types of rods and amp settings with lots of opportu­ nity to practice. The introductory course will begin Monday, March 16, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for three Brussels darters sharp in playoffs BY SANDRA JOSLING The Brussels Legion Nevada sponsored nine youths for the Zone C-l Youth dart playoffs held in Mitchell. The Brussels squad fin­ ished well with many trophies being brought home. Lisa Coyne (tyke girls) was first with Anita Little (tyke girls) runner up. Angela Doonanco was first in the junior girls and Debbie Richardson was first for the senior girls. Ernie and Joshua Haycock paired for the double event and finished as Tyke runners-up. All these darters qualified for the District Youth dart shoot to be held March 29 in Lucknow. The mixed dart winners for this week are as follows: Lawrence Machan and Dave Adams, first and Debbie Cann and Gordon Jacklin, second. Colleen Martin was the ladies' high shooter with 105 and Gord Jacklin for the men with 115. The next euchre night is Wednes­ day, Feb. 19 at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $1.50/person with lunch provided. There will be a “sweetheart” pub night on Friday, Feb. 21. The fun is to start at 9 p.m. On Sat., Feb. 8, the Brussels Legion sent two teams to partici­ pate in the Fraternal Euchre held in Hensail. The team of Randy White, Calvin Semple, Neil Adams and Ross Nicholson finished as cham­ pions and the team of Ernie Back, Lloyd Glanville, Willis Knight, and John Smith finished in sixth place.
