There's no snow problem for Blyth poker rally this year Blyth Atoms opened their second playoff series by scoring early and often on the way to a 9-3 win over Hensall. It took only 34 seconds for Dar­ ryl Bromley to score from Mike Ansley to open the scoring. Less than two minutes later Jeff Cowan scored from Darryl Bromley to make it 2-0. Hensall kept fighting hard all night and finally clicked in the first minute of the second period but Darryl Bromley scored his second goal from Chris Carter to widen the lead. Two minutes later, Bromley scored his third goal with Jeff Cowan and Chris Carter drawing assists. Hensall got one goal back a minute later but Blyth pumped in four more goals before the second period ended to end any suspense. Jeff Cowan scored two in a row, the first from Darryl Bromley and Mike Ansley and the second from Belgrave Novices sweep playoff Belgrave Novices completed their playoff series sweep of Goderich Feb. 10 with an exciting 3-0 overtime shut-out in W.O.A.A. -Houseleague action at Goderich. There was end-to-end action throughout regulation time but nei­ ther team could score. In overtime, Tim Robinson finally got Belgrave in the lead with a goal 2:23 into the 10 minute period. Craig Marks widened the lead with a goal at 3:59 and Tim Robinson scored from his right winger Justin Camp­ bell at 6:43 to build an insurmount­ able lead. Kyle Anderson recorded the shut-out, facing very few shots as his team-mates prevented many good scoring chances. Curling Club names winners The second draw of the Brussels Mixed Curling Club ended last week with the following teams winning prizes. First place with 50 points was the team of Michael Alexander, Valerie Shortreed, Joyce Alexander and Mary Ann Bone. The Brussels Bulls put the Sailors out of their misery on Tuesday night with a 5-0 shutout. The Bulls took the best of five in three straight. Corey McKee fired his third and fourth goals of the playoffs while Todd Norman added a pair for the Bulls and Jamie Scott added the other marker. Scott Vader had a solid game chipping in two assists. Trevor Fortune recorded the shutout. The Bulls will be without rookie defenceman Quade Lightbody for the first four games on the semi­ finals. Valley Harvesters in the best of seven semi-final. Grand Valley knocked off Wingham three games to one. That series begins tonight (Wednesday) at 9 p.m. in Brussels. Game Two will be played Saturday night in Grand Valley, then back to Brussels on Sunday for game three. During the regular season the Bulls beat the third place Grand Valley Harvesters twice and tied them twice. Coach Pettigrew said, “It should be an interesting series. Grand Val­ ley is very tough to beat in their rink and they do not take a lot of penalties so discipline will be important. I think if we can stop Glen Watt who was the league's scoring leader we will be success­ ful.” The other semi-final has Hanover taking on Mount Forest. The Patriots knocked off Walkerton in four games. After the past few years when just getting enough snow to hold a snowmobile rally was a problem there should be no worries for this weekend's Blyth Snow Travellers poker rally, despite the mild weath­ er early this week. Last year's rally had to be cancelled for lack of snow. The poker rally begins with reg­ istration at 10 a.m. at the club­ house on the second concession of East Wawanosh where registration continues until 2 p.m. Food is also available at the club house.
