They maintain a long-lasting beauty and value. Pearls, a symbol of purity Tips for a fragrant honeymoon When planned correctly, fra grance can add a lovely new dimension to your honeymoon. But without proper planning, it can be an unwelcome guest! Here are some practical guidelines for travelling with fragrance so your honeymoon will bloom with happiness rather than wilt with wan memories. When is a travel size not a travel size? The mere fact that a product is small does not necessarily make it ideal for travelling. Check out how easy it is to close the package for spill-proof packing. Make sure those small sized travel items are big enough to last to the end of your trip. Is the package refillable? (most sample sizes are not!) If you go on a long trip, you should be able to refill your small sizes, without hav ing to buy regular sized ones that are heavy and take up space in your suitcase. Air wars: Bring a fragrance that does not offend anyone. People will be sitting near you for hours until you arrive at your destination - and your new spouse will be closest of all! Scents that have animal notes, heavy fruity notes, incense tones or strong woody elements are gener ally “love/hate” fragrances. You either love them passionately or hate them with a vengeance. Your honeymoon is not the time to risk it! Instead, travel with scents that have bright, fresh, top notes (they make you smile), and warm, cozy base notes (they are “comfortable” notes). Bring along scented dusting powder for long trips. Powder is soothing, comfortable and cool. The perfect match: When both husband and wife wear fragrance, it's a good idea to wear scents that go together. An easy way to do this is to choose scents made by the same company - they often blend well. The perfect nose: Believe it or not, the amount of moisture in your nose affects how a fragrance is per ceived. The ideal medium is inter mediate - not too moist, not too dry. If you're going someplace arid or someplace humid, your sense of smell will not be as acute. You can afford a slightly heavier scent or scent form. Into thin air: As you go higher up in altitude, the air gets drier and thinner, so you have to take more breaths to get enough oxygen. This affects how you will experience a fragrance. Pack scented body lotion or cream to substitute for perfume and ease the dry skin caused by higher altitudes. Because they are designed for use all over the body, body creams and lotions have a lower fragrance concentration and will not be over powering in thin air. The emollients will also help the fragrance last longer, aid in healing a peeling tan, and make wearing stockings more comfortable. Diet matters, too: If you travel to places with spicy food like India, Mexico or Italy, bring along a scented body lotion. Garlic, curry and other spicy foods emit odors from the body and body cream will help to mask them. Hot scents: When travelling to hot places, remember that heat dif fuses more fragrance into the air. The fragrance doesn't escape any faster from your skin, but it does “bloom larger” in the air. If you get a bad one, you’ll become a philosopher. - Socrates Love is much nicer to be in than an automobile accident, a tight girdle, a higher tax bracket or a holding pattern over Philadelphia. - Judith Viorst Marriage is a great institution, but I’m not ready for an institution. - Mae West For centuries, the pearl has been a symbol of love and purity, prized for both its beauty and inherent value. Long a favourite adornment of brides - according to legend, a great Hindu god presented a single, exquisite pearl to his daughter on her wedding day - cultured pearl jewellery is the perfect complement to every bride's ensemble. In fact, according to Denise O'Donoghue, jewellery editor of Bride's Magazine. “Pearls are the number one choice for bridal acces sories. More than 50 per cent of our readers will wear pearls - in the form of earrings, bracelets and/or necklaces - on their wedding day.” O'Donoghue identifies several reasons for the popularity of cul tured pearl jewellery, pointing out that these accessories are examples of high-quality jewellery that “feels very special, and yet people also feel comfortable wearing it. The bride also knows that it will wear well into her lifetime, and that it also can be passed down to future generations.” Indeed, with the current emphasis on traditionally-styled fashions and back-to-basics accessorizing, cul tured pearl jewellery is a particular lighter form of scent and layer it over other scent forms if you want it to last longer without being over powering. Cold scents: In cold weather, fra grance diffuses less, so you'll want a stronger form, such as perfume. Since cold weather tends to dry the skin, fragrance forms that have more oils and less alcohol are preferable. Capture the, elegance... We stilt have, openings available for this year! Cul tured pearls (which, like the natural pearl, are grown in live oysters), will maintain a long-lasting beauty and value. Imitation pearls, on the other hand, are made almost entire ly of synthetic - and sometimes organic - chemicals, and therefore have no intrinsic value. It is important to select the best quality cultured pearl jewellery that you can afford. Look for a bright, clear luster and a deep inner glow. Try to choose pearls that are rela tively free of surface blemishes (cracks, bumps or blisters), which can detract from the overall beauty and may shorten the life of the pearl. When selecting cultured pearls for the bride, it also is important to match the length and style to the design of the gown. Off-the-shoul- der or scooped-neck gowns are best accentuated by one- to three-strand princess or choker length cultured pearl necklaces, while high or closed-neck gowns call for longer strands of pearls to create a smooth, slim silhouette. The bride's skin tone should also be taken into consideration when selecting pearls. Generally, women with light hair and fair complexions tend to look best in cultured pearls with a slight rose tint, while cul tured pearls in creamy, off-white shades complement darker hair and skin tones. With the wide variety of cultured pearl accessories to choose from, it's easy to enjoy the convenience of one-stop shopping for keepsakes to be presented to the members of the bridal party. Bridesmaids will be delighted with presents of cul tured pearl pendants, bracelets or earrings, white cultured pearl tie backs, cuff links or shirt studs are appropriate choices for ushers. Whatever the final selections, cultured pearls add a special touch of radiance to the bride's special day. And perhaps best of all, their beauty - and value - will continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.
