Melville reviews past year at meeting Melville Presbyterian Church held its annual meeting after the January 26 service. Following the pot luck lunch, Linda Shaw, Gail Semple and Lesley Stretton took the children tobogganing while the adults reviewed the past year and planned for 1992. Six members were elected for a two-year term on the Board of Managers. They are: Peggy Aitchi- son, Brian Armstrong, Bill Short­ reed, Ross Cunningham, Murray Armstrong and Leona Armstrong. Phase one of the Wheelchair Access project (to basement) is Ventures plan Peace Festival Sunday, February 2, Pastor Tom Warner presented a sermon on the topic of prayer. The accompanying scriptures were Mark 9: 38-40, and Luke 9: 49-50. Pastor Tom was also the speaker for the Winter Bible School, Sunday evening. This week's session was held at Zurich Mennonite Church. Next Sunday Brussels Hotel changes hands The Brussels Hotel has officially changed hands. Helga Zimmer and Joe Springer of Waterloo took possession on Fri­ day, January 30. Though the pair have been in business before, the hotel industry is a new venture for them, according to Helga. At this moment, they plan to run the hotel exactly as it was run by the previ­ ous owners June Warwick and Gerry White, who have moved to Goderich. The parking lot adjacent to the new entrance will be levelled and grav­ elled. The main project for the coming year will be to gain wheelchair access to the main auditorium. Government grants will not be available as the government regards only the basement as being public use area. The Ven­ ture Club held its usual meeting on Thursday, Jan .30. Next week the Venture Club will celebrate a Peace Festival for par­ ticipants and their families. Friday and Saturday evenings, the Youth and Parents of Youth will have a special program, “Weekend Chal­ lenge”. On Friday evening, January 31 the grade 7-8's enjoyed an evening of games and snacks at the home of Alex and Margaret McLeod. NOTICE TO BRUSSELS RESIDENTS Date Change The February monthly council meeting will be held on Thursday, February 6,1992 at 7:00 p.m. in the Municipal office. Donna M. White Clerk-Treasurer Superintendent reported that the school has doubled in attendance and appealed for at least two new teachers. In December, the Junior classes presented “God's Christmas Rainbow” and the Senior classes performed a play “To You is Bom” at morning service. The new youth group is growing and active under the leadership of Tom and Lynn Cronin and Bill and Tammy King. They helped co-ordi­ nate the Christmas Food Drive and Carol Singing evening with the young people of the other churches. On Dec. 22, morning service, they dramatized “A Journey to Bethle­ hem”. Each member researched his own part from the Bible. The choir, under the direction of Joanne King, presented the cantata “A Child is Bom” Sunday evening, Dec. 22 with a good attendance. Both Bible Study groups are con­ tinuing: the ‘Chat and Chew’ mem­ bers enjoy their brown bag lunch at 1 p.m. each Wednesday then watch a video and have study and discus­ sion until 3 p.m. The series covers the whole Bible and they will be starting the New Testament in a few weeks. Kerygma is a more intensive study and is held on vari­ ous evenings dependent on Caro­ line's schedule. New members are welcome in each group. Adult membership and faith inquiry classes are planned for February and March and the ‘Thirty Something’ group are plan­ ning an event Feb. 22 with a pot luck supper, games etc. Legion news BY SANDRA JOSLING On Saturday, January 25 Bob Elliott represented the Brussels Legion in the fraternal dart singles held in Lucknow. Bob finished fifth and had a very enjoyable day. The Brussels Legion will be sending approximately nine youths to participate in the Youth darts to be held in the Mitchell Branch on February 9. Good luck! Results of this week's mixed darts are as follows: Gord Jacklin and Barb Elliott, first; Dave Adams and Bill Little, second. Top shooter for the ladies was Barb Elliott (117) and Dennis Doonanco (116) for the men. Darts are every Tuesday evening at 8:30 p.m. The next euchre night is Wednes­ day, February 5. Euchre starts at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $ 1.50/person. All are welcome to attend. There are still seats available for the Mystery Bus Tour on February 8.
