Legion teams compete in bowling tournament Mounds of fun BY SANDRA JOSLING On Saturday, January 1 1 the Brussels Legion Branch 218 sent two bowling teams to the Zone C-l finals held in Clinton Team mem­ bers were Dave McArthur, Murray Lowe, Les Brewer, Ken Josling, Eric Ross, Henry Gouthro, Sue Mastnak, Debbie Trollope, Anita Gouthro, Bonnie Brewer, Sandra Josling and Jayne Ross. If winning meant to have a great time then both teams were first, however, that didn't qualify them for the District finals to be held in Owen Sound. Better rolling next year. The Service Officer Mel Harper will be at the Branch on Feb. 19. Alex Henderson and Dave Adams first, Lawrence Machan and Barb Elliott, second. High shooter for the ladies was Martha Logan and tied for the men with 140 score was Lawrence Machan and Gordon Jacklin. Wednesday, January 22 is Euchre night at the Legion. Cards begin at 7:45 p.m. Cost is $1.50/person. All are welcome to play. All dogs must be licensed according to By-Law #17-1987 being a by-law to license dogs and prohibit the running at large of dogs. The January meeting of the Gen­ eral U.C.W. of Brussels United Church was held Wednesday, Jan. 8 at the home of Laura Barbour with 16 ladies present. A welcome was given followed by a poem “A True Story” by President Gertie Kellington. The secretary's report was read and approved. The treasurer's report, Steward's report and social report were given by the ladies responsi­ ble for these. Letters were read from the shut-ins. Worship was led by Gertie Kellington, opening with a New Year's poem. The hymn “O God Our Help in Ages Past” was sung. The scripture was from Isaiah 65, verses 17-18. A reading, “A New Year Is” was given. The hymn “Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah” was sung. A skit of New Year Resolutions was performed by Betty Campbell, Joyce Jacklin and Gertie Kellington. Discussion followed. The hymn “I Need Thee Mennonites hold child dedication On Sunday, January 19, Pastor Tom Warner continued the series of sermons on “Humbleness, Heaven and Healing” al Brussels Mennonite Fellowship. He stressed that Prayer is a see­ ing and hearing experience. A little child often demands that an adult not only listens to him but also stops whatever he is doing to look at him. Thus full attention is given to the child. Likewise God gives us full attention when we pray. He looks and listens to us. There is also a need for us to focus all our attention and senses on Heaven. to the Lord at the Sunday Service. The Ladies' group will meet for the monthly meeting on Tuesday evening at the Church. The Venture Club for Community Children will also hold the weekly meeting Thursday evening, and while that meeting is in progress the Upper Room group of interested adults will also meet. The Youth group will be providing babysitting ser­ vices for families of small children on Friday evening so that the par­ ents may have a “Parents Night Out”. The order of service was from the Fall Exchange Journey into Faith celebrating the 30th anniversary of United Church Women. The fee schedule to be paid shall be: a) if the dog is a male or a spayed female a fee of $8.00 b) if the dog Is female, a fee of $10.00 c) for a second female a fee of $15.00 d) for a second male or spayed female a fee of $10.00 Proof of rabies vaccination must be shown at time of tag purchase. The owner shall within* 10 days of becoming such owner, and thereafter within the first 60 days of each calendar year cause it to be registered, numbered, described and licensed at the office of the Clerk.
