Wendy Thomp- Bantams tie 1, win 1 BY RUSTY BLADES The Blyth Bantams christened their new sweaters last week as they picked up three of a possible four points in two homes games. Against Brussels on December 9, Brussels scored the only third peri od goal as they tied Blyth 3-3. The teams traded first period goals with Blyth's Tim Cowan notching a power play goal in the final minute on a rebound with assists to Ryan Chamney and Tim Lyons. Michael Bromley scored two second period goals for Blyth with Ryan Chamney assisting on his first and Jerrod Button assisting on his second. Both teams played solid hockey throughout the contest and the game came to a fitting con clusion with the 3-3 tie. Blyth then hosted Stephen Town ship on December 12 as they played another complete game with a 5-3 win. Michael Bromley led the way as he scored Blyth's first four goals of the game. Bromley opened the scoring as he buried a rebound of Wilfred Datema's shot. After Stephen Township tied the game Bromley gave Blyth a 3-1 lead, as first he scored on a fine pass out from the comer by Brian McNichol and then he cleverly deflected Jonathan Collins' point drive. Once again Stephen Township tied the game but Bromley notched the winner five minutes into the third. Accurate passes from Benjie Hakkers to Christopher Howson set up Michael Bromley who deked the goalie and lifted a backhand shot over his shoulder. Ryan Chamney set up an insurance goal with two minutes to play as Henry Bos unleashed a wicked slapshot from the blueline that handcuffed the goalie and gave Blyth a 5-3 victory. Thanks from the Bantams is extended to the Babcocks at the Grand View Restaurant in Blyth for sponsoring new sweaters. This year the team looks good decked out in new duds and they played just as well last week, gaining a win and a tie against two of the strongest teams in the league. There have been too many breakdowns in our zone and these other teams are capitalizing. I think we have to stop worrying about first place and concentrate on playing good hockey.” The Bulls were to have played Orangeville on Sunday, but that game was snowed out.
